Quite frankly he wouldn't have seen time on the floor. It's great for him to go over there and develop for a year.

Iowa State guard Matt Thomas has signed with Spanish club Obradoiro, the team announced. He played a great Summer League with the Lakers
Congrats MT, get that money!

(I wish we had signed him though)
Understand his financial security needs, as oppose to a camp invite, that would limit his other opportunities.

Since he is playing in one of the best league/team in Europe, he will be able to develop and prove his skill in a competitive league

Congrats

Obradoiro is a nice place to start his career overseas.

They run a very limited budget, but they always seem to find very decent players, such as Salah Mejri, Robbie Hummel or Mike Muscala, they all found their way to the NBA.

So good luck to him!!!

you sure about that? lets assume he was just as money in real nba games as he was in the SPL. lets even say he would be a turnstile defensively at the nba level.

if you can hit at a super high clip from 3. dont you get an automatic slot assuming you're not too small?

because everyone has moments in games where you need a floor spacer.

I would have liked him on a two-way. Never can have enough shooting.

Good for him, he did a fantastic job on the Greatest Summer League Team of All Time.

If JJ Reddick can get minutes, Why can't Matt Thomas get a NBA contract like 15-20 minutes off the bench?!

Reddick will be turning 34 soon and he's not quite as athletic as before.. Matt GOAT Thomas just 22 years old. 6'4.5 , 195 lbs. Pure shooter. Can be used as a catch n shoot guy off the bench.

Damnit, We need his shooting off the Bench. Better shooter than JC. JC is so ball dominant it hurts our flow.

this DUDE is a better JJ reddick! we need him as our 3 pt specialist off the bench. He's the next Paxson, the next Kerr in a Championship team.

You literally said he's better than Redick, yet listed him to be the next of players who are worse than Redick...Dude can shoot but he's definitely not better than Redick lol.

Doesn't that league end early. To bad we couldn't still sign him to a 2 way contract anyways. His shot and quick release will always have a home off the bench with the big boys.

he's doesn't seem to be as quick as reddick, nor does he seem to have anything off the dribble. reddick made a life out of shooting but he wasnt just a catch and shoot guy in college. he was the main gun with the ball doing dribble moves to create space to pop that shot too. in the nba a lot of that dribbling ceased...better athletes longer guys, etc. but he could still go to the rack occasionally and create space occassionaly. that threat is essential. even if its rarely used. if they find out you cant dribble and all you can do is setup and chuck. they play you differently . which means they only pay attention to you in certain scenarios. which means the lane will be clogged in other scenarios. but with that said ii would still like to see him at worse on the edge of our bench.the boy can shoot.

Why would you assume he'd hit shots at the same clip in NBA games? The competition is better, the defenses are better, etc. Yes, the man can shoot, and eventually he may be a 40%ish 3 point shooter in the NBA. But the more realistic assumption is that he wouldn't be for a while--just like it isn't realistic to think that Lonzo is going to be a triple double machine from the get (though he'll eventually get there too....).

We don't know if Thomas can sustain this level of shooting in the regular season, but I'd sure love to find out. He could be our version of Seth Curry.

We should've offered him a 2-way contract. Think about it: he shot something like 14/16 from 3s in the last two games. That's Curry level type of shooting.

I think Blue deserves the other two way, but I liked Thomas. The Lakers still have an opportunity to sign him at some point, since both parties are familiar. I look at it like an informal stash.

It was fun to watch him get so hot in summer league. I hope he comes back to next year's summer league so we can then answer the question: Best team overall or greatest team of all time?
