Congrats on a job well done, ..."One of the good ones"

Danny Crawford officiated more than 2,000 regular season games during his NBA career.
One of the most recognizable NBA referees has decided to put away his whistle.
Danny Crawford is retiring after 32 seasons calling NBA games. He officiated 23 consecutive NBA Finals, with his last game being the the Golden State Warriors clinching the NBA crown in Game 5 last June.
Crawford's career spanned 43 years, including time working in the CBA and collegiate ranks.
I will always hold a grudge for game 2 of the 2008 NBA Finals. It was probably the worst officiated game I have ever seen, considering its relative importance. He was one of the three refs for that game. Bye Danny, glad you're gone.

One of the good ones? He was one of the worst, along with Salvatore and Mauer. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:

Add Joey Crawford and Violet Palmer to that list.
As a general rule, if you know a referee's name, they are doing a bad job. The way you know a game was called well is when you barely even notice the refs are there. That is one reason why I hate Mike Breen as an announcer, because he used to be a referee, and therefore loves calling the referees by their names throughout the game while constantly defending them and complimenting them. I do not want to think about the referees at all when I am watching a basketball game.
As for Joey Crawford, it always seemed like he, more than most refs, would give the benefit of the calls to the home team. He also often made grand, loud gestures in the process of making calls, to the point where he once danced around like 10 feet while making a blocking foul call. One of the worst habits he had was after he made a call, he would wait to report it to the scorer's table in order to stand and watch the player's reaction to his call, with the whistle ready to blow for a technical.

NBA looses one of the good ones. I thought he was one of the best. He controlled the game without bravado. Enjoy retirement. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

I always felt like Joey Crawford just tried to make himself part of the game too much. The Duncan incident wasn't really the only time he did that sort of thing-- it was just the most ridiculous. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:
As soon as Wednesday's news landed that Danny Crawford is retiring after 32 seasons as one of the NBA's most respected officials, fellow Chicago native Dwyane Wade tweeted congratulations and "nothing but respect."

Not a surprise coming from D-Whistle. He was gifted more free throws in the 2006 NBA Finals than anyone in recent memory.
It seems like O’Neal is going off on everybody these days. But his relationship with referees during his 19-season playing career was probably best described as contentious, as he drew numerous fines over the years for complaining about the officiating. Perhaps Crawford just got caught in the crossfire here.
