With Game of Thrones coming to an end, it has me wondering if this is my favorite HBO show. There have been so many good ones and this one has the advantage of being the latest and not being completed yet so the excitement is at its height.

With shows like The Wire, Boardwalk Empire, The Sopranos, Treme, Rome, etc, how would you rank it?

2. The Wire
3. The Sopranos
4. Eastbound & Down
5. Crashing
6. Flight of the Conchords
7. Six Feet Under
8. Treme
9. Curb Your Enthusiasm
10. Westworld
11. Last Week Tonight with John Oliver
12. Lucky Louie
13. Enlightened
14. True Detective (drops this far because that is how bad S2 was)
15. The Jynx
16. Real Time with Bill Maher
17. Deadwood
18. Show Me a Hero
19. The Night Of
20. Girls
21. Entourage

I never was that high on The Sopranos. Good, yes. But I like The Wire, Boardwalk and GoT much better.

Not ranking Westworld yet because it is only one season into what will inevitably be a multi-season arc. Haven't seen every HBO show either, but these are the shows I have seen in full (or in full up to this point).

I thought you were a Sopranos over The Wire guy.

I loved the first season of Treme, but I started to lose interest near the end of season 2.

As far as my list, it's tough to rank, but here are my favorites in not really a truly relative order:

The Wire
Sopranos
Curb
GOT
Boardwalk Empire
Deadwood
Westworld
Oz
Larry Sanders
Silicon Valley

Keep meaning to start Big Little Lies. Heard nothing but good things.

Tried watching Veep, but the Editor in me couldn't get through the first few episodes. There were just too many jarring cuts that it took me out of the show. I get that sometimes in comedy you have to emphasize the jokes ahead of the flow, but to me, I wasn't really able to enjoy the jokes because I kept cringing at the cuts. Might be something that got better as time went on.

Wanted to like Vice, but just couldn't after the first couple of episodes.

As much as I loved season one of True Detective, I can't put it on a list after such an abysmal failure on season two.

Tried Girls and the first season was interesting, but I found that I didn't really relate to or like any of the characters enough to stick with it.

Don't even get me started on Entourage.

Nah, I'm a wire guy over everything. If Shakespeare made modern tv, it would be the wire.

*puts contrarian pants on*
I'm watching it for the first time now and I'm super disappointed. I'm just guessing it didn't age well... benefited from a mediocre time in TV (it's the golden age right now)

Season one was good, like a "B" grade.
Season 2 was centered around stupid young white boys and their uncle at the dock.. and it was pretty slow
I'm on ep. 6 in season 3 and this is the slowest season of all..
the show is like 75% centered around the detectives and their lives... ain't no surprise murders in this show.. ain't nothin surprising so far pretty much
The show's most interesting character Omar, isn't featured enough.
Season 1 was good, it was raw and eye opening... but 2 and 3, not above average.

They don't even allow this pace of a show to take place today... I think the Sapranos is way better , even though I identify and am interested in The Wire's culture more

This show is the 1950s, one handed head down, dribbling basketball stars of shows.. did not age well. Slow as hellll
