Not good at all. He's missed 67 games in the last two seasons combined. At least they didn't give him a no-trade clause which would've been the final kick in the head. He's IP during the playoffs when they need him the most, that plantar plate in the toe and quad issue came at the worst time.
Not sure how much of this was JWest's decision, but there is a risk that this 173 million dollar man will be providing premium seat warming services in a fancy suit at some point during the contract. |
Griffin was drafted #1 ahead of Harden, Curry, and DeRozan. I've always felt like he's sort of disappointing for a #1 pick in such a stacked draft class. |
That's probably why they held onto him too tight and let CP go. He wasn't one of their own. Losing or letting your #1 pick go is always portrayed as a loss and an ultimate failure of management. The league and many fans (Lakerfan and otherwise) did that when we flushed our own Number 2 (pun intended).
This is actually in line with West's past dealings. He said he loved (that word) Van Exel and Jones. They were two of his cogent picks. He did not want to do that Jones trade for the shooter Shaq was complaining that he lacked. There was a rumor in 97 about him going to Sac for Mitch Richmond and West held onto him until midseason in 99, a 50 gm year. Traded him at a loss, imo. Glen Rice wasn't Glen Rice any longer as a definitive 3rd option. Had elbow surgery on his shooting arm prior to the deal, iirc. |
west once said van exel was his favorite player ever, when i believe everyone was expecting him to say magic or something. and then jack nicholson said something along the same lines in a long two part interview with the la times. |

Nick Van Exel would've been one of the most popular Lakers of all time had he been allowed to vent (I never thought his "cancun" thing was that big a deal) and not get traded for table scraps.
He would've single-handedly made the three-peat era much easier on our main guys, and given how good he still was in '03 and '04 might've helped us to another 'chip.
Anyway, Clippers suck. Been a good few days for them for us. |

I don't think Blake or Deandre are staying here long. Jerry West will probably trade them for draft picks like what Ainge did with KG and Pierce.
If Celtics can't get Hayward, Jerry will probably unload one of Blake or Deandre to the Cs. Boston is ready to contend now; Clipps should be in full rebuild mode. |

Not as bad as the prior version featuring Sterling and V. Stiviano. _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL

Clippers gave Blake a 5/$175M deal. That's $35M/yr. Everyone talks about Curry's 5/$201M deal but Blake's deal isn't that far off.
For a guy with injury issues and getting into his 30s. And a guy who's been 2nd fiddle to CP3 for the last 3 years. If that doesn't scream desperation, I don't know what does. |

They might be better than we think. Depends on health and chemistry as with every team, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were pretty decent. |

Most definitely, however I think they're only gonna better in the short term while we will be better in the long term. Unless Blake goes back to his 2012 self (I doubt it), I feel like the clips are a treadmill team for the next 5 years. |

Blake may get more shots up due to a lack of CP3, but his game won't be as efficient. Same with DAJ obviously.
Clippers might get a 7 or 8 seed at best. _________________ Dominating every day. |

They will be fighting for a playoff spot in the bottom of the west. Loss of CP3 won't be offset by Gallo. |

Jerry West has really done work for them. More than Doc accomplished in 4 years. Adding Teodosic will make it a very fun team to watch. |

Everyone knew he'd get the max. Can't change market value. If both Blake and Paul left in the same offseason the entire franchise would sink, and Ballmer clearly at least wants a respectable team on the floor. |

I don't see how even Jerry West was going to undo things that were already snowballing rapidly downhill.
He's there to try and help the next phase of recovery. We'll see how long he hangs in. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

$$$$$$$$$$$
They offered him more money than the Grizzlies who tried to get him in 2013 for $5 million/2 years. |

It will be interesting to see how he adjusts to the NBA speed. But Clippers have recovered nicely after losing CP3 in the offseason. |

The Clips have done way better than the Cavs.
The Jazz are dead, and that puts the Clips in the playoffs. _________________ -----------------------------------------------------

Lost another starter. Mbah a Moute joining CP3 in Houston. That's 3/5 of last year's starting unit. _________________ "Suck it up. Don't be a baby. Do your job." - Kobe Bryant |

yeah right
Maybe Jerry can council Gallanari about punching other players in the dome, and how it could break your hand and make you miss training camp and the start of the season... _________________ “Always remember... Rumors are carried by haters, spread by fools, and accepted by idiots.” |
