Deng to Serve as Captain at NBA Africa Game 2017
Quote: | Growing the sport of basketball across the globe has been a passion of Luol Deng’s since he first entered the NBA in 2004.
The Lakers forward has been particularly involved in his native Africa and, for the second consecutive time, will serve as a captain at this year’s NBA Africa Game.
Born in South Sudan and having lived in Egypt, Deng will act as the leader of Team Africa alongside co-captain Thabo Sefolosha.
Tip-off will take place at the Ticketpro Dome in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Aug. 5. |

Top African Basketball Players Face Off Against NBA’s Best in South Africa
Louol Deng named Team Africa captain
Quote: | This Saturday, August 5th, some of the best African basketball players will face off against a selection of some of the most recognizable names in the second edition NBA Africa Game taking place in Johannesburg, South Africa.
It’s a showdown you wouldn’t want to miss as the two teams, Team Africa and Team World go against each other to defend their honor.
The NBA said that the game is designed to bring the organization closer to its African fanbase as Basketball continues to rise in popularity across the continent.
“Basketball is witnessing explosive growth in Africa,” NBA commissioner Adam Silver said.

He got sleeves on both legs. Hopefully he's 100% from injury and has been working on his game this summer. |

Does his contract count on the cap if he is not allowed back in the country. |

As long as he's been in the gym working and getting ready for the season then that is more important, if he doesn't do much next year he should reward the Lakers by working on a buy out. |

He's "injured" and unable to play in the NBA Africa game tonight. Ouch. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

I am trying to firm up my understanding of the buyout option for his contract IF he is still with us in the summer of 2018. Does this sound right?
Under a buy-out, we can negotiate the elimination of some part of the salary guarantee: https://moorebasketball.com/2016/01/19/how-it-works-the-waiver-procedure-and-contract-buyouts/
So, is it possible some team ( Minn ) would be interested in having Deng on their roster for say $5 million a year, instead of $18? And let's say we offered to buy out the remainder of his $36 mill for $28 mill. I think this might be a win ( us ) win ( Minn ) win ( Deng ). First, our two year obligation drops to $28 and then IF he signs with some team ( Minn ) for two years at $5 per, we get to set-off ( $5 - the min salary / 2 ) around $2 M per year off our salary obligation. So we stretch $28 over 5 years = 5.6/5.6/5.6/5.6/5.6, but with set-off we end up with the following final cap hits: 3.6/3.6/5.6/5.6/5.6,
which is quite a bit better than stretching his full $36 over 5 years: 7.2 per year. Seems like the worst case assuming we cannot move him at a reasonable asset cost and really he would probably rather be in Minny for those two years than here. |

This guy is a nightmare. It boggles the mind that Mich and Jim didn't do their research and see how old his body had become....nuts |

He's three months removed from Right Pectoral Surgery.

Why is anyone really surprised he isn't playing? Or did they forget?
He was expected to miss the majority of the off-season, so him not playing in the games is not a shock to me.
I'm more concerned about how much work he's been able to put into the gym this off-season and him being ready at the start of next season. _________________ How NBA 2K18 failed the All-Time Lakers:

Not sure why he wouldn't want to be traded though. He hasn't exactly been embraced with open arms so far. I actually think he'd welcome a trade to almost anywhere just to get rid of this chapter in his life. _________________ “Christ did not die to forgive sinners who go on treasuring anything above seeing and savoring God. It's gonna be impossible to trade him unless we add future picks in a deal like Toronto did with Carroll, I can't think of a team right now who wants Deng unless they value his effort in communities and want to see how he does with a basketball team that might give him the chance to have a better year. |

The only concern I have with Deng is that he is still on the roster. |

The chapter Where he cashes 18 million dollars a year in checks makes it easier. |

He still would even if he got traded.
The likely answer is he's still recovering from Pectoral surgery. it's not the sexy "I just want to push all my hate his way" answer. But it's the likely one. _________________ How NBA 2K18 failed the All-Time Lakers:

Give it up people, we're stuck with Deng unless we pay a ransom to someone to take him, or stretch him. That's it, nothing else to hope for. |

No hate, just cold hard delusion-less facts. The guy is an albatross. He may be a great guy, but he offers the Lakers next to nothing. Every minute he spends on the floor is a minute one of our four young forwards are sitting. I wish him well, but have zero interest in seeing him play. |

Is he still recovering from pectoral surgery? Or is it a new injury?
Shame on you wishing harm or death on him. Grow up? |
