It's crazy how much we are expecting a 19 year old to change the games of older players. Could happen, maybe not.

FWIW, here were the NBA 6th men votes for last year (JC didn't get a vote). He makes about the same or more than the bolded.

Gordon, Eric (Hou.)
Iguodala, Andre (G.S.)
Williams, Lou (Hou.)
Randolph, Zach (Mem.)
Johnson, James (Mia.)
Monroe, Greg (Mil.)
Crawford, Jamal (LA-C)
Kanter, Enes (OKC.)
Mills, Patty (S.A.)
Hardaway Jr., Tim (Atl.)
Carter, Vince (Mem.)
Johnson, Tyler (Mia.)
Brogdon, Malcolm (Mil.)

I don't think JC's contract is a terrible one. But i'm not convinced it's a great deal either. It is moveable if necessary, but just hate how our 2018 plans are so transparent. I'm hoping teams don't make us pay an extra premium to get cap space.

No, it's a terrible contract. Do a quick advanced stat comparison on all those names (I can only confirm RPM), and I'll venture he's last, and by a decent margin.

The bolded is very much a factor, IMO. Look at how the Celtics got screwed in the Avery Bradley trade when everyone knew they had a gun to their heads to clear space. He's actually a good player and they still had to cough up a second round pick.

This is the kind of impact you expect from a bigh lottery pick that is supposed to be the PG of the future and the face of thenfranchise.

I don't expect huge individual numbers from a 19 years old kid and I believe he is going to struggle as every rookie, but a positive impact on everybody around him is something I expect.

It's more of an indictment of the older players.

You need a 19 year old to teach you to be unselfish? Yikes.

He's not teaching them anything. Except maybe to expect the ball. It's his playstyle. It's not a lesson

Again, that's an indictment on our returning players if you need a 19 year old to change players' playstyles. Hopefully they adapt and change their ways.

Yes, the hype here for our players swings too far in both directions. Lonzo won't be teaching, he will be learning just as the other rookies will. Only the PG usually has more to learn about playing with so many teammates whose games he is unfamiliar with.

I have no idea what that means.

So players will continue their playstyles but play differently b/c a 19 year old Lonzo?

It absolutely is not usually expected for a 19 year old rookie to have a significant positive impact on a team. Can it happen, sure, but it is silly and ignoring history to suggest it is widely "expected".

Anyways back to JC. I just hope Luke doesn't go with hockey subs like he did last year. Mix/match JC with Lonzo and even KCP.

I think he will try to hold strong on JC being the 6th man....even in those first few games that KCP is suspended, I doubt JC starts....which still leads me to believe he will once again like to see that 2nd group remain a unit....but we will see if he changes this year. I also expect up to 10 minutes in some games with Ball, KCP and JC on the court together.

Not a fan of Luke's decisions to keep units intact no matter what. When we were hurt with injuries, guys were forced to play with teammates they had 0 to little experience playing with.

maybe Ingram and Kuzma? or Brewer....my gut just tells me he is going to want to make JC as comfortable in his routine as possible.

This

Intangibles

Ball has a great skill set, but what makes him a transcendental player is the way he impacts a team as a whole.

It's nice to see him get some props but no way he should be above Nick who was a multi-time All-Star at 37th.
