(Only eight players can be protected)

Agree, disagree, discuss. Who ya got and why??

Protected: Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma, Julius Randle, Brook Lopez, Larry Nance, Jr., Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Jordan Clarkson,

Available: Corey Brewer, Luol Deng, Josh Hart, Tyler Ennis, Ivica Zubac, Thomas Bryant

https://www.silverscreenandroll.com/2017/8/9/16118840/la-lakers-nba-mock-draft-expansion

1. I'd go with

Protected: Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma, Julius Randle, Brook Lopez, Larry Nance, Jr., Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Josh Hart

Available: Corey Brewer, Luol Deng, Jordon Clarkson, Tyler Ennis, Ivica Zubac, Thomas Bryant

2. Expansion seems like a horrible idea.
The talent pool is already stretched.
The way the conferences and divisions are set up of 2 confs * 3 divsions * 5 teams makes it a nice number of 30 teams.

The talent pool was fine for years. It only seems stretched now because most of the stars are finding ways to consolidate to a select few teams.

Your protected list is the same I would choose.

If two teams are somehow added, there is no way it would be an 8 player protection scheme.

I could see a 6 man plan. So teams can keep their starting 5 and 6th man.

otherwise those poor team will have to settle with over priced old veteran and younger draft prospects.

All 30 SB Nation NBA blogs joined in to imagine a future where the league adds two expansion teams. Here are the results.

it's always been 8 players protected and it won't be changed. if expansion teams pick wisely they can get a solid team right now. anyway, often there are deals between expansion teams and current teams to take certain player or not to take certain player.

Yup, the last time the NBA expanded teams could protect 8 players. That's why expansion teams always suck at first -- they get stuck with the dregs. It usually takes 5-7 years for an expansion team to move up to a .500 level.

and some expansion teams revert to their first years (khm,khm,Orlando...)

I'd say that's true of every team. There are years you're great, and years you suck.

The way this league is going, it needs to contract if anything. If stars maintain the trend of only joining powerhouses, the rest of the league will be living on lottery hopes and revenue sharing checks.

Whether you added a couple teams, or dropped a couple of teams, that wouldn't have any effect on the whole super team phenomenon. But really, the NBA has been a league of super teams for decades. The only difference is now the players are the ones who are creating the super teams, not so much the GM's

The funny thing is the NBA honestly needs to remove some teams, just not enough meaningful talent to go around.

Less teams equal better talent per team, and super teams are definitely a recent thing. Outside of the Heat and Warriors what was the last one? Showtime Lakers? I wouldn't call them a super team but they were a pretty deep team.

Seattle and Vegas are ready baby hope these cities get rewarded! Once we return to dominate the league the games at TMobile will be very home Staples-esque friendly for the Lakers!

Too many terrible franchises as it is, hopefully no more teams will be added.

You think Cleveland with Lebron, Irving and Love is a super team, but the showtime Lakers with Kareem, Magic, Worthy/Wilkes weren't? I don't even know what to say to that

The NBA has had superteams for 50 years. Generally, the first recognized super team was in 1968 when Wilt joined with Jerry West and Elgin Baylor. The two most recent before the current superteams were the Lebron-Wade-Bosh Heat and the Garnett-Pierce-Allen Celtics.

You think Durant joining the Warriors and another MVP and a bunch of all-stars is unprecedented? Nah - exact same thing happened 35 years ago. In 1982, the 76ers got to the NBA finals with MVP Julius Irving and a bunch of all-stars - Maurice Cheeks, Bobby Jones, Andrew Toney. The following year MVP Moses Malone joined them and they won a ring.

Brewer makes a lot of sense for an expansion team. He can be the vet mentor, and has a good contract.

I'd go with Hart. You have him on a rookie contract for a long time and if you get lucky you get a young, solid player.

Zubac next.

Definite bottom-feeder material along with a few other threads but that's what the off-season spawns. ....Until then we suffer.
