That's pushing it a bit. I'm not ready to say he'll have an 18 year career.

1. You meant 13 years?
2. As if NCAA abilities by age weren't enough to tell the massive separation in talent?

Are you purposely trying to be disagreeable?

Fisher played from 1996-2014. 18 years.

I wish we could have seen more of Hart in summer league. Bottom line, I think he will a fine player. Comparing him this early to Fisher is a good thing, I think the Lakers want him to be a smarter version of Jordan Clarkson.

Nice to know the Lakers are staying with Mitch's approach.

Hmm. Can we maybe say it's the Ryan West approach then?

Jesse Buss is all over those late picks.

I have the impression that one day he is going to be the boss, after all the great Dr Buss had a kid that has a good basketball mind.

Solid late pick

I got that Dfish vibe from him as well.
Hopefully he'll hit some big shots for us as well.

If he can keep us competitive while starters are resting it is enough, anything beyond that would be great for a late pick without elite athleticism os skills.

You gotta admit, Dfish without the clutch shots was pretty bad.

He wasn't without them. Can't subtract things that actually exist in direct comparisons between players. In hypotheticals, yes, but not while arguing players as they actually are/were. Kobe, Fish, Horry, and Shaw were all huge shot guys in the playoffs and RS. Fish was on Kobe's tier and over Horry and Shaw (though Rob hit the single biggest one of them all). That's a pretty huge thing to take away from Fish. You might as well say, "You gotta admit, Dfish without his right leg would've been pretty bad."

Misread BBall reference.

Still, I find these Fisher to Hart comparisons in terms of skill and talent completely infuriating. They do nothing similar on the basketball floor. Their approach to the game is similar, that's it.

Hell, skill is only a small part of having a long term NBA career.

Yep, there is zero comparison between the 2 players other than they were both late first round picks in the same year a higher rated guard was drafted/traded for by the team. That's it. They play different positions, are different in size, different strengths and weaknesses if you just compare both players at the prospect stage. People are just hoping for a competent starter in the backcourt to be paired with a generational type talent at the other guard spot. Fish was a good outside shooter who couldn't finish in the paint and wasn't a good defender. Unless you also consider Vlade a good defender because he flopped and drew charges, then okay. Hart is a good finisher in the paint and needs to improve his jumper, but plays good defense. The only similarities between Fish and Hart are circumstance, not skill. That's it. AS PROSPECTS, Hart is superior to Fish coming out of college. I agree with Mike. Now, intangibles, desire, work ethic and luck are also big determiners if a player will make it and last in the league. Obviously, Fish had those in spades. We'll see if Hart does.

Well measured take. Accounts for Hart's skill/stats/measurables/etc and also Fish's fully completed career. Probably can be comfortably said that Hart was a better prospect than the 1996 version of Fish. If not, Fish might've gotten into a national program at age 18. While Fish was playing in obscurity at Arkansas-Little Rock, that 94 Razorbacks team with Corliss Williamson won the title and got back to the title game in 95 (GO BRUINS! TYUS FTW!). President Clinton went to some of their games. Fish missed out on that trajectory. Maybe not speedy enough for the Razorbacks' liking. Iirc, those Arkansas teams were the type that ran as much as they could to tire out the opp's.

In Fisher's first months with the Lakers, all he did was bull his way to the rim, which he was good at back then if not as an older player. His 3 pointer really came out of nowhere, which is kinda forgotten. We more likely remember that Ariza developed a 3 on the fly, but Fish sure as hell did the same thing. Not only that, but the arc went back to 23'9" from his rookie to sophomore seasons. The increased distance didn't seem to hamper his ability to shoot, perhaps it even benefited it (same with Kuzma?)

Well I hope Hart projects to a better player than Fish.
IMO Fish is overrated. His biggest asset was he never really got in Kobe's way as the point guard... he would get the ball up in a hurry and out of his hands. Kobe could have had a much easier time if he had a better sidekick in the backcourt with him.

Rookie Josh Hart May Play Key Role For Lakers This Season

One promising thing about Hart is that he showed marked improvement each year during his collegiate career.

3 Things to know about Josh Hart

Quote:
After a great college career, Hart’s hard work was rewarded by the Lakers. As one of the best college players in the country last season, Hart was certainly deserving of being taken in the first round. While teams generally stay away from four-year college players, there is no denying that they can help a team. Hart was one of the college players that just consistently worked hard on his game to greatly improve over the course of four years.

Josh Hart is a tough, gritty athletic player. He is also mature having played 4 years of college ball.
IMO he will be an early contributor to the team effort on both ends of the court.

Hart, Clarkson, Ennis, Nance, Kuzma, and Zubac gives us a pretty dynamic core of second unit options.

Josh Hart Visits Los Angeles Rams Training Camp

Quote:
A few weeks before his first NBA training camp, Josh Hart made his way down to UC Irvine to check out what camp is like in the NFL.

The rookie shooting guard visited the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday and caught up with running back Todd Gurley.

The 2015 Pro Bowl selection autographed a jersey for Hart, writing, “Ball out this year my G!”

Reminds me a lot of JJ Barea that floater is gonna be a headache for a lot of teams, and he also likes scoring off of screens.
