How many of you guys/gals are going to watch this bad boy on August 21st? Supposed to last approximately 20 seconds or so here on the west coast.

Don't forget not to look directly at it fellas! It can damage your eyes.

Sunglasses won't help
Wearing multiple sunglasses won't help
Looking at it through your phone's camera won't help
The damage that it can cause to your eyes will be painless because the cells it hurts don't have pain receptors.

Stay safe y'all!

Just searched
https://www.google.com/search?q=help+spot+fake+eclipse+glasses

ok.. political for a sec.. no government page telling people how to spot the fake ones.. I hoped to find one..

just found this

Quote:
Scientific Discoveries

The British astronomer and mathematician, Sir Arthur Eddington, used the total solar eclipse of May 29, 1919 to test Albert Einstein's theory of general relativity.

By taking pictures of stars near the Sun during totality, Eddington was able to show that gravity can bend light. This phenomenon is called gravitational deflection.

If you're in the center of the totality shadow in Oregon, which is where I'll be, the total eclipse will last over 2 minutes. People in California will only get to see a partial solar eclipse, which has a window of about 3 hours. The partial solar eclipse is still cool to see, and I encourage people to check it out.

Here's a link for people to find when it will be in their area and how to easily make a pinhole projector: http://www.planetary.org/blogs/emily-lakdawalla/2017/sharing-an-eclipse-with-kids.html

Only 62% coverage in LA but still an event I guess. I didn't get any eclipse glasses so I will just do the hole in the box trick.

There is something like 20% coverage in Mexico, where I'm on vacation. It's not even worth ruining my eyes.

Went to Lowe's today and they were completely sold out. Target too (and according to the worker, literally everywhere else in town). Amazon too.

Ought to see the warnings for us Coloradans
Tons of people are driving into Wyoming/Nebraska
Quote:
“If you decide to get in your car and drive north on Monday morning and you don’t have a place to stay (Monday night), if there’s 100,000 vehicles that want to come south on I-25, I-25 moves about 4,000 cars an hour if there’s no crashes. So that is potentially eight to 12 hour queues,” Bhatt said.

Is there something special supposed to happen to you if you get to witness this?

What is the hype about..is the Sun rumored to fall out of the sky? Not come up the next day?

I saw a good one as a kid and for some reason my excitement meter for this eclipse is simply broken...

Forever's gonna start tonight
Forever's gonna start tonight

I know this doesn't quite fit here but I was sharing an old ozzy song with the girlfriend recently.. as I have aged the lyrics seem to be even more real..

Quote:
If that's the only thing that's
Stopping war

Then thank god for the bomb
Thank god for the bomb
Thank god for the bomb
Thank god for the bomb

Nuke ya nuke ya

Almost 8:30 AM here in the SFV, and it's very cloudy/overcast - mother nature with an epic troll job for some of us.
