KCP D now is better then Rons, actually Artest had a huge fall off defensively once he left Indiana.... We finally have a guy who can lock down players when we are trying to win down the stretch.

We just need to see the team come together and the ride is gonna be EXCITING.

MWP is a much better defender than KCP. I like KCP but 2010 Artest was good and slowed down a young but explosive Kevin Durant.

I'm not saying Ron was a bad defender, but consistently KCP has made his mark with his D, and he's been giving fits to elite scorers since he's been in the league, Ron did a good job stepping up in the playoffs, but we have a guy who can D up the scoring guards in a 82 game season.

Ron was the Defensive Player of the Year at one point. Artest's defense at age 30>>>KCP. It's not really that close man. You're going to be disappointed this season if that's your expectations.

Can't really compare KCP and Ron. Ron was much bigger physically and had a few inches on KCP. KCP is really only able to D up the guard positions. Arrest could guard from 1-4.

I'm not sure the initials KCP ever graced the LG boards before this offseason and now he's better than artest at defense? Jeez

Ron was a really really good D guy, but let's not act like KCP is some guy who just plays D, he has videos on YouTube which shows how he slows down the top scorers in the league, and while Artest might have the superior Defense, but we have a top notch defender on the team and it's good to have someone who we might need if we end up facing KD/Harden/ and other scorers in the playoffs.

I'm thinking that the Lakers have been so bad for so long, that in the signing of KCP, who they had to overpay and dump Nawa to get, they got a guy who was let go by the 12th worse team (record-wise) in the NBA..

And yet people REALLY want to see this signing as a redemption of how great of destination the Lakers are...

He may do very well, but then again so did Lou Williams and Nick Young last season...

I would't put my money on it, but it's in the realm of possibilities. So, yes.

1-5 are a lock to make the playoffs. 6-11 have a real chance. 12-13 an outside chance (like 3%). 14- 15 no chance.

Why is it a joke? They had the point differential of a near or playoff team last year, and that was without adding Butler/Teague/Taj.

And we expect our young core to improve but not KAT/Wiggins?

They got an all NBA player while subtracting an injured Lavine and ineffective Dunn. They're much improved this year.

Again, by point differential, they were a team that was closer to a playoff team. They just couldn't close games. With Butler, and Teague/Taj as vets, they won't have that problem.

Baby steps for the Lakers, as they move back toward competitiveness after the worst four-year stretch in franchise history. With the additions of No. 2 pick Lonzo Ball, guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and center Brook Lopez, RPM projects the Lakers to improve nearly to league average on offense. They still look like one of the NBA's worst defenses (28th).

+7 game improvement is not unreasonable but +10 or more would be pretty exciting.

Clippers and Jazz are too high imo but we will see what happens.

So it would be the worst five-year stretch in team history.

From who? People around here? ESPN?

Injuries is the only concern now. They only lost one true impact player in Lavine. Kris Dunn hadn't done much yet. They more than made up for Lavine with Butler, then you add Teague and Taj Gibson. They're in like Flynn.

I have a good feeling about this year. I like how this team is put together, but this is a tough western conference I could see them as low as 14 and as high as 6.

GSW 1
Rockets 2
Wolves 3
Spurs 4
Thunder 5
Clippers 6
Pelicans 7
LA Lakers 8

The most exciting aspect of the upcoming season is that we simply dont know how the marginal playoff teams will do and we have no idea how good we will be

All the key guys will have to play up to their potential and get one or two unexpected boosts from end of the bench guys like Deng or even Caruso. Even then we probably will also need some outside help from teams above us (injuries)

You can say that same descriptions for teams like Clippers/Memphis/Dallas/Pelicans/Jazz so it's not like you are gonna make us feel bad.

Many people are not even putting us in those teams' level. I'm hoping, in a realistic sense, the lakers make it to the postseason, but would I put money on it?...... not sure about that

Your theory is spot on, but my point is that WC teams from 6-15 will have to have things go there way as well, my biggest hope is that we have a lot of guys who are hungry and want to show what they have this season.

The Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook released over/unders for all 30 NBA teams. I organized them by Conference.

Quote:
Eastern Conference

Boston Celtics 56.5
Cleveland Cavaliers 53.5
Toronto Raptors 48.5
Washington Wizards 47.5
Milwaukee Bucks 47.5
Miami Heat 43.5
Charlotte Hornets 42.5
Philadelphia 76ers 42.5
Detroit Pistons 38.5
Orlando Magic 33.5
Indiana Pacers 31.5
New York Knicks 30.5
Brooklyn Nets 28.5
Atlanta Hawks 25.5
Chicago Bulls 21.5

Western Conference

Golden State Warriors 67.5
Houston Rockets 55.5
San Antonio Spurs 54.5
Oklahoma City Thunder 51.5
Minnesota Timberwolves 48.5
Denver Nuggets 45.5
Los Angeles Clippers 43.5
Portland Trail Blazers 42.5
Utah Jazz 40.5
New Orleans Pelicans 39.5
Memphis Grizzlies 37.5
Dallas Mavericks 35.5
Los Angeles Lakers 33.5
Sacramento Kings 28.5
Phoenix Suns 28.5

I think we can be better than Mavs and Pelicans. But that just moves us up to 11th. Playoffs in 2018-2019. Don't see it happening this year.
