Hey all,

If @KingJames chose @Lakers in 2018, would it be at a discount? @hollywood_hoops w/@DaveDuFourNBA & @JoshMartinNBA https://www.almightyballer.com/hollywood-hoops-ep-47-would-lebron-james-give-the-l-a-lakers-a-discount-as-a-free-agent-next-summer/

Recorded pre-tampering ruling,

LBJ taking less has been an interesting question for me.

What if he takes 25m ala Durant and PG13 agrees too (both do a shorter 2+1 deal)? That would allow us to possibly keep Brook, and with a few moves, Jules.

I know it's unlikely, but interesting.

does LeBron have a specific player in mind to bring beside PG13?

Even if he took $5-6m less than his max and PG13 takes his full max, I think it puts us in a likely scenario to keep Brook.

If we are able to trade Clarkson without taking back any salary, renounce Jules (preferably package him in a deal with Deng for expirings) and stretch Deng, we will have close to $70m in cap space. That puts us in a position to offer Lopez close to $10m at a 1+1 deal, while still keeping his bird rights for the following year.

Given the following reasons, I can see Brook taking less for one season:
1. The chance to finally play on a true contender (5 out of 9 of his professional seasons he has played on teams with top 3 losing records)
2. The opportunity to make up the money the following season
3. His affinity for the LA area
4. The dearth of cap space in 2018 plus other competing bigs who teams would prefer to sign before considering Brook such as Cousins, DeAndre Jordan, Nerlens Noel, Embiid (restricted)
5. His familiarity with the players, coaches and system
