If one big quake happens, doesn't it loosen the stress of the plates in other places? Man, hope they're ok down there though, Jesus. Wasn't it more in the water a bit? Softened the blow?

Amen brother.

Look what's happening in South Florida and they had days to prepare and are fortunate power is still working and stores and gas stations are able to process payments.

You can let your imagination run wild imagining every type of disaster scenario but, at a minimum, you should always prepare for utilities and/or civic services to be unavailable for an extended period and never let your gas tank drop below half-empty.

It's not nice to fool with Mother Nature. She's getting sick and tired of getting poked by drills and polluting her air. She's grabbing you by the shoulders, trying to shake some sense into you.

Good point, I need to replenish gas for the generator and fill a couple more propane cylinders.

It looks like it was a slip fault and the area is a former lake bed. It is a subduction zone with the Pacific plate going under the Mexican peninsula. Apparently there are 5 tectonic plates in the Chiappas area.
