Sitting down to watch IT now with my 12 year old daughter.
Gonna traumatize her like my parents did to me as a youth. Its tradition.

I read IT as a 13 year old. Yes, all somewhere around 1200 pages worth of IT. That was back in 1980-something. I wasn't ready. No one told me. For the 2 weeks during my read and about 2 weeks after...I didn't sleep until sunrise. I slept with my lights on. I took naps whenever I could. Pennywise completely hijacked my life. Almost 30 years later, I'm still scarred by the experience. Stephen King is a brilliant, but deeply disturbed man. I haven't read any of his books, or watched any of his movie adaptations since. _________________ So glad we gave you your flowers while you were here, Kobe. |

The kids portion of the mini-series was excellent. I feel like this movie moved too fast... there wasn't much "down time". I'm hopeful part 2 shows some flashbacks and more of the kids experiences and friendship.
Loved Pennywise in this. Wished he had a few more scenes and more speaking parts. The Georgie/ sewer scene was perfect. He goes from playful to creepy in an instant... it's great.

I just rewatched the miniseries on Spike TV a few days ago and really wanted to see the new one.
Pennywise was actually very convincing and creepy. There was some lightheartedness especially toward the end that sorta adopted a goonies/super 8/stranger things kinda vibe. And honestly, I'm not so sure that I liked that. But the film is really well made and the child actors were all very good. It actually sucks that they will be replaced for part 2.
I had to sit in the very front row with my neck notched up, but I still managed to enjoy myself |

From what I've read, the kids will return for the sequel. Scenes will flashback to them as the adults recall their old memories of Derry. I'm hoping this helps flesh things out more. I still feel like things were rushed and there weren't enough character building moments or scenes with PW. _________________ "Dread it, run from it... destiny arrives all the same." |

Such a disappointment. It flat out sucked as a movie let alone trying to compare it to the book. |

Modern horror films are long on creepy window dressing and short on character and genuine scares. This movie is no exception. _________________ 14-5-3-12 |

I liked a few of the characters... Others were notvas fleshed out.
Disappointed PW didn't get more screen time. Too much CGI _________________ "Dread it, run from it... destiny arrives all the same." |

I heard they're gonna redo Salem's Lot next. You're gonna set out to improve upon something Tobe Hooper directed. Yeah, that ain't gonna happen. _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL

8/10 for me. |
The kids were great actors and the movie pulled me in. It had some scenes that made me jump. I thought the first half of the movie was amazing but I didnt fear the kids would die in the last half.
Still better than any other scary movie i've seen besides Saw

unimaginitive jumpscares + loud noise combos that are in every "horror" movie from the last 10 years
Spielberg-derived kids and bikes 80s nostalgia porn but without the charm or warmth of the 80s
central outcast female kid with short hair who is in love with the main kid and has a special relationship with the demon. They even pulled the main kid from Stranger Things to be part of yet another bikes vs. demon crew, but he's not the main kid in this movie, he's a side kid and an annoying little pantload
0/10 + 3 because Stephen King's Maine is absolutely terrifying to think about
3/10
Stranger things = 3/10
Super 8 = 2/10 _________________ "All wars are civil wars, because all men are brothers."

Maybe all the new Saws but the first one was an intense thrill ride with great acting. Still love the plot twist.
It also didn't hurt I was on a double date at the time and the movie worked perfect lol. |

Despite all the bad reviews the movie has been hugely successful. I wonder if this will inspire a whole new generation of coulrophobia (fear of clowns) in kids? The movie industry needs a new scary genre. The last trend of demon possession is so played out.
I didn't grow up with a fear of clowns because they were a normal part of society back then and we only had good associations with them: Birthday clowns, circus clowns, TV clowns, Ronald McDonald, etc. I'm sure if I'd heard of John Wayne Gacy back then it might have been different, but I didn't learn about his horrific crimes until decades after he'd been caught. If it was in the news my parent shielded us from it. These days, it would be difficult. _________________ "Suck it up. Don't be a baby. Do your job." - Kobe Bryant |

"All the bad reviews"?
84% on rotten tomatoes, the movie was pretty well received for the most part.
Had some issues, isnt a masterpiece.... But it was good. _________________ "Dread it, run from it... destiny arrives all the same." |

Saw it this evening. It was different than the TV series but I enjoyed it more than I thought I would after reading all the negative posts here. They moved the timelines forward (27 years?) from where the TV mini-series story of the Loser's Club started in the early 1960s. This was probably so their reunion as adults can take place in the present day instead of the early 1990s. It would certainly save money not having to search for set pieces and cars from that era.
I found the different era a little odd at first but, overall, it didn't take too much away by doing that. The Eddie Kaspbrak character was a little different and the Beverly Marsh character was radically different than their counterparts from the book and TV versions but the other characters were pretty much the same. I actually enjoyed this version of Richie Tozier more than the TV version played by Seth Green. While I agree that Tim Curry's Pennywise is iconic, I don't feel his take would have fit the tone of this movie. This version of Pennywise felt closer to the character from the book.
I can see why fans of the book and TV mini-series or even those who knew new nothing about either didn't like the movie. It doesn't break any new ground in horror movies and is quite tame compared to other movies these days. However, I also see why it's gotten favorable reviews. It seems targeted more towards fans of movies like Super 8 or Netflix's Stranger Things.
I look forward to seeing part 2 next year. _________________ "Suck it up. Don't be a baby. Do your job." - Kobe Bryant |
