This is an interesting reexamination of Mark Felt a/k/a Deep Throat. Was he a publicly spirited whistleblower, or was he a Washington insider using Woodward and Bernstein for his own selfish purposes? This article makes a persuasive argument for the latter.

Yeah, there's been quite a bit out about him (including how he "came out", and screwed over a biographer in the process) that indicates he wasn't a knight in shining armor. But a good thing for bad motive is still beneficial to us.

Even before we knew it was Felt, I always believed it was someone jockeying for promotion.
