I'm also a firm 100% believer that he's much older than he claims. Probably more like 36-37. | At his age, he is better at the 4 - where there is a logjam
With Randle and Nance struggling with their outside shots - hence they might play a lot of 5 - maybe Deng will get more PT
W will soon see if he will be playing with a chip on his shoulder or just a fact waiting to collect his checks |

Deng and Nance were our best defenders at the PF position last season, since we are trying to win games there is no reason to keep him on the bench. If Lonzo turns him and Randle in desirable assets it can be the solution to our long term cap situation.
A good guy like Deng playing well is not completely unmovable |

NO is a few hundred K below the luxury tax. No way they take on Deng's deal unless they can offload more bad salaries off their books to be under the tax. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

And I doubt too many teams think Deng is still a small forward. |

Watching Deng highlights on YouTube, it seems they are mostly his 3 pointers. Not a lot more of interior play |

Deng looks like he's lot a ton of weight and is in great shape
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DIidXFNXkAAsAiC.jpg
Better in general for him. If he comes into this season in shape and plays halfway decent like we expected him to do last year he'll be a good addition to what we're doing and a solid vet presence. _________________ How NBA 2K18 failed the All-Time Lakers:

I think he can provide 11/6 for the team on 43/80/36. |

Good for him. When I saw the thread was bumped I thought it was just more bashing. Nice to see something positive for a change. Thanks. _________________ "Suck it up. Don't be a baby. Do your job." - Kobe Bryant |

To be honest now that Shabazz has decided to stay in Minni, our bench can look like this.
PG: Jordan Clarkson / Tyler Ennis
SG: Josh Hart
SF: Kyle Kuzma / Corey Brewer
PF: Luol Deng / Thomas Bryant
C: Larry Nance Jr. / Ivica Zubac
That works, if Deng brings what's left of his A Game this year and be in great shape he'll be a solid vet to have.
In fact I think if we run it small that's likely the bench lineup we'll be using. If Deng is able to bring some game this season he'll be a valued member of the bench unit and vet in the locker room. _________________ How NBA 2K18 failed the All-Time Lakers:

I'm sure Deng would welcome a trade just as much as the Lakers would. Wouldn't surprise me at all if he's already had a sit down with Magic and Rob and both sides were honest that a trade would be mutually beneficial. Hopefully he'll play well enough to earn some minutes and get his trade value up. He needs to go to a team where he'd get to play the 4. _________________ “Christ did not die to forgive sinners who go on treasuring anything above seeing and savoring God. It would be great to see a bounce back season for Deng. He's going to need to as there's a lot of competition in both forward slots. If he can bounce back it will make him a lot easier to trade. |

Wizards, Portland, Boston seem like good fits... on paper. Not with that terrible contract though maybe Wiz would consider. |

Deng would have to play well in his vet presence. But at the same time if Deng plays well, he may not be as "HAVE TO MOVE" as we thought initially.
IF Deng had put up 12/5 last season on 44% shooting I don't think anyone would have minded his contract as much as they do now.
it's up to him to play well this season, if he does he'll be valued. _________________ How NBA 2K18 failed the All-Time Lakers:

^^If Deng plays well enough, he's outta here. No matter how much weight he drops or how well he plays, he's not going to play well enough for the Lakers to keep him if they can somehow find a team that's willing to inherit his contract. Unfortunately, his contract is so bad that he could play really well and teams still might not be interested.
But even aside from the horrendous contract, he makes little sense for the Lakers long-term with Randle, Nance, and Kuzma. All three have infinitely more value on the court than he does. Playing well is Deng's ticket out of town, not his ticket to stay. _________________ “Christ did not die to forgive sinners who go on treasuring anything above seeing and savoring God. Deng taking the 7% body fat serious?
I predict he will have his best 3pt% of his career. |

There is no way he is as bad of a player as he was last year. The drop off was just too insane from his playoff run in Miami just a couple of months before he joined the Lakers. I firmly believe that there was something wrong with him that he just did not want to talk about or use as an excuse. Hopefully he is back to a decent percentage of how he was in Miami. He will still be overpaid, but I know he can contribute. _________________ R.I.P. Doc Buss |

Deng will have to play like close to an all-star to move his contract.
Mitch and Jim made a huge mistake signing him for so long a period at way above his worth. They messed up the Lakers for years.
And it is very foolish to give up good young assets to get rid of Deng. Especially a player like Kuzma. Clarkson would be the only player would want to trade with Deng, and it seems both are untradeable.
Hopefully, he will play well enough to be traded with the Lakers paying part of his contract to get rid of him.
Otherwise in the last year stretch him would be best solution. |

I wanna ask this, if we're looking like a team that's going to the playoffs, and Deng is an important player contributing to the team, without him we wouldn't make the playoffs etc... Would you still trade him, or wait until the season ends? _________________ I was an atheist, until I knew Kobe.
