A coworker was just asking for recommendations on a kitchen knife. I don't remember much from my days as a Cutco knife salesman in high school
Anybody got any recommendations? He says he wants to use it for meat and vegetables. Another way to put it would be, if you could only have 1 kitchen knife, what would it be?

An 8 or 10-inch Chef's knife. A high-end brand like Wustof or Henkels. Should last a lifetime.
I have a Henkel chef knife it works for veggies and meat pretty well. We also have a couple cutcos I use them to cut meat only and those things are beasts! Never need sharpening! _________________ "a new level of asinine intellectual dishonesty that has rarely been witnessed here."

Love Henkel Four-Stars, have a entire block of them...! _________________ “Always remember... Rumors are carried by haters, spread by fools, and accepted by idiots.”
both beautiful knives but the victorinox fits my hand better
Victorinox Fibrox bang for the buck is pretty much the sweet spot. I hvae that and a Shunji. The Shunji is nicer for sure but isn't 5 times better considering the price. It's (bleep) gorgeous though... _________________ KOBE

Yes, we got a set of Henkel knives as a wedding present and 25 years later they are still as sharp. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.
Nice knife, but the shape of a chef knife is much more versatile than a santoku. _________________ “We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.” ― Elie Wiesel

I was gifted a Wusthof Classic Ikon set with block. Never handled any better set of knives.
From what I've learned, maybe incorrectly, is that a set of knives is never as good as knives purchased individually. Besides steak knives, that is.
I have a Wusthof 6-in and a paring knife. Both are great. Be sure to get one of each. _________________ Courage doesn't always roar.

But now that I've seen THIS, I think I have to have one...
the reviews!

Nice knife. Feels good in the hand. Cuts through vegetables like a lightsaber through anakin skywalkers legs. One minor problem.....it also cut through my table....and tortoise who was asleep under the table.

its not very sharp. not only that but after I got done taking down my master's enemy i couldn't even wipe the blood off before I stuffed it back in my sheath. Might be good for cutting fush or something, but so far its terrible for destroying enemies and seeking vengeance.

Here's some knife porn. This guy makes premier kitchen knives that sell for thousands apiece. His knives are sharp enough to cut a full standing water bottle in half without knocking it over.
You guys are awesome!! I'm gonna forward him the link this thread tomorrow when I get to work
Tell him to get a chef's knife for sure. I vote for the Victorinox 8inch. It won't break the bank and if he wants something better after he'll have an idea what to look for.

Sweet! I usually enjoy Bourdain's shows

And encourage your friend to find a knife use class nearby. Some culinary school or grocer or such place may offer them. _________________ Courage doesn't always roar.
