Sparks keep most of the core except for pg and 3 pt specialist, Kristi Tolliver but Chelsea Gray has emerged as a solid contributor and dare I say, a closer in the 4th quarter.

Nneka has added the 3 pt shot to her game and they managed to acquire Odyssey Sims, a veteran back up pg. The story this season has been the defensive play of Alana Beard. It's Beard's final season and she's in peak form; Beard leads the league in steals and is a favorite for DPOY.

Currently, the Sparks have a 7 game win streak. They stumbled a bit when Sims sprained her ankle, but Sims is back and the Sparks have looked terrific the past 2 weeks. They play Washington this afternoon at 2:00 pm on Spectrum Sportsnet.

Sparks have 3 championships now. They won back to back championships in 2001 and 2002 under Coach and Laker legend Michael Cooper. They won again last season, beating the Minnesota Lynx in a decisive game 5 on the road on a fadeway putback jumper by Nneka with 2 seconds left.

Nice comeback from 17 points down to beat the Mystics yesterday (on Nneka's birthday).

On to Minnesota now to play the league-leading Lynx in a rematch of last years Finals!

That was a great game. They went back and fourth in the last 5 minutes of the 4th.

I don't watch much WNBA, but Sparks/Lynx WNBA finals was awesome last year. And they continue with game 1 this year.

Do WNBA teams also make a white house visit? If not, that's really F'd up.

Sick of Sparks pulling these out against my Lynx. Texted my dad yesterday with a minute left that LA always wins these close games against MN. He said, we'll see. Yeah, we did. Predictably. So evenly matched but do feel Sparks are a tiny bit better. But certainly Lynx can still win. Not falling behind 28-2 would help, of course.

They would have but their Championship victory fell at an awkward time when the Presidency was changing hands. But Obama did acknowledge their victory

They WNBA champs have made a white house visit pretty much every year since the league was created. The 2016 champs weren't able to schedule a visit before Obama left office, though, because a lot of them were playing overseas.

Really having trouble against Minny's length in the front line. Whalen absolutely kills it with post entry passes.

This series has played out exactly like last year's Finals (Sparks winning Game 1 on the road, Game 3 at home and Minnesota winning the other two). Hope Game 5 is a repeat of last year as well.

Doubt it though.

They should have closed this out a long time ago. Their turnovers in game 2, and not bringing the effort in game 4 could be a hard lesson to learn.

I don't expect the refs to be on their side tonight either. They'll ensure a Lynx victory most likely. Why? Because the WNBA needs a real rivalry for the publicity. I hope it doesn't happen, but the combination of everything else makes me feel like it's headed in that direction.

We'll see though.

I'm not currently watching. I saw the Lynx were up at the half. I have thoughts but I want to stay positive so I'll keep them to myself for now. Go Sparks!
