I find it really weird that he has declined so much physically at 32. Most players are past their prime at 32 but not completely washed up. |
Blame Thibs for putting the mileage on his engine.
Deng's NBA ranking in MPG after Thibs was hired:
2010-11 - 4th (39.1)
2011-12 - 1st (39.4)
2012-13 - 1st (38.7)
Deng was traded to the Cavaliers in 13-14 after 23 games in Chicago. He averaged 37.4 MPG with the Bulls which would've been good for 8th most in the NBA had he finished the year there. Guy was treated like a gardener's pickup truck, and Jim/Mitch paid him like he was brand new off the dealership lot. |

Yup heavy minutes and tough matchups throughout early part of his career. That's why the contract he received would only have made sense were it a farewell one from the Bulls. |

To be fair, total mileage still doesn't really compare to guys like Kobe and LeBron. But maybe that's unfair to expect anyone to have the durability of those guys, who hardly declined into their 30s (well, at least until Kobe tore his Achilles). |

He's a vet he doesn't need to prove himself. Should get the year off honestly. |

He played fine in the 2 years in Miami after leaving the Bulls, so I don't know that the minutes he played in the three preceding seasons were that big an issue. |

Well, he is from the Sudan. There might have been some funny business with his paper work. LOL! |

He had success the year before playing PF on the a slow-paced Heat team. He wasn't successful for us playing SF on a fast-paced team. We were a bad fit for him, and probably still are.
He poses a bad problem for Luke. The Lakers would like to play him and let him show something, so the cost of moving his contract is lowered a bit, but there is a huge log jam at SF -- Randle, Kuzma, and Nance |

Agreed, but man he had a lot of time last season to rest and recuperate. He has looked good so far this pre-season, his 3 point stroke looks good! _________________ R.I.P. Doc Buss |

Deng had a clear drop-off after leaving Chicago (just look at the numbers). And based on what we saw from him last year, those minutes have worn on his knees/body. Guy doesn't have much bounce or spring in his step. |

Yep.. He's an amazing vet who has nothing left to prove. He deserves the next 3 years off. And I wish other NBA teams could share in this appreciation. |
