Stuff like this is why I place zero value in hearing about "defense work" in training camp. Every year, same "defense is the priority" stuff, and every year we are the worst defensive team in the league. Need to see improvement of some kind when the regular season starts, but I'm not optimistic.

why do many of these guys even come to Lakers training camp if they are not even going to get a chance on the court in the preseason? I just think you have to find a few minutes for the 16-20 guys as reward for working and helping the team prepare.

Yeah Zimmerman and Beacham are definitely on the outside looking in. I guess exposure to the Laker staff and team could help them a bit. Just sticking with South Bay is likely a good result for them. Briante Weber got some run. Enough to show some good qualities on offense, but also enough to expose his holes on defense.
Caruso and Blue are doing real well with this training camp. Particularly Caruso after yesterday's game.

Caruso has shown promise and we surely need help at pg.

If Zimmerman, Beacham, and Weber all stay with the SB Lakers...and are joined by Caruso and Blue on 2 way deals.....that should be a pretty good G League squad.

The Lakers waived Stephen Zimmerman and VJ Beachem in their first cuts of training camp.
Good. Hated seeing them take away minutes from the other guys during pre-season
Weber will likely be after next game.....then most likely offer Blue a 2 way deal before the first game....unless they determine Bogut is not likely to stay healthy.

Bogut was a wasted signing, this guy will probably never play.

I would rather of had Duinleavy for the shooting void.

I agree. After watching Summer League I'm much more inclined to follow the SB Lakers and tune in on these guys now and then.
Interesting - there's a debate going on about giving Kuzma a preseason start. Hey it's a start...
Quote:
The head coach said that Kuzma may get a chance to start in the preseason, but that his value off the bench has been important thus far.
“The scoring and the energy that he provides that second unit right now is pretty crucial as well,” Walton said. “But it’s on the debate table.”
Looks to me like Magic and Luke realize BI's had a bit too much spotlight as well, more than he needs right now.
Yeah Luke was definitely implying that he'd prefer to bring Kuzma off the bench tho... I guess as long as he plays starters' minutes I'm cool, but he's definitely not putting his optimal starting lineup out there.
Kind of a bummer, I do think with the right opportunity Kuzma has a ROY shot but that's not what's important. _________________ Austin Reaves

for him, I think ROY would be huge...it would put him in a higher tier perception which will matter for his value as an asset, and when he is ready to seek his extension.

Bogut was unable to go through Monday's practice due to a lingering groin strain.
The Lakers hope to have Bogut back for Friday's final preseason tune-up against the Clippers.

Practice Report: Brandon Ingram (10/9/17)

Brandon Ingram gives his thoughts on how he can improve offensively after a slow start to preseason.
Brandon is definitely holding back some information he'd rather not discuss. He's got to know that other teams are scouting him to go right every time, and that it's causing him problems right now. He's also got to know that he had some shooting mechanics breakdowns when he's forcing his shots, cocking it back too far and slinging low arc shots at the rim for instance.
I do agree with his high level self assessment that his defense is improving while his offense sucks right now.
