|
I have been searching the web and cant find a stat that would be a great question for Laker fans...
What Laker player has the LEAST amount of playing time in a regular season or playoff game in Lakers history...
I don't think preseason counts in terms of record keeping, I could be wrong, I don't know when the league starting keeping track of minutes but I assume they didn't when we where the Minneapolis Lakers, my best guess would be someone who was called up from the D league and played one day for like 3 minutes or something...
Also who has the MOST minutes...It's gotta be Kareem or Magic or Kobe for that one _________________ Hambuger! The cornerstone of any nutritious breakfast |

Which uniform number has been worn the most by different Lakers?
Hint, we just traded one of the players. |

Some of my favorite hoops trivia questions (probably pretty easy for Laker fans):
- In what city did Kareem Abdul Jabbar break Wilt's all time scoring record?
- The Lakers won 5 championships in the '80s. What 3 players were on all 5 squads?
- The Lakers started 4 future Hall of Famers in the 2003 - 2004 season. Who was the 5th starter (on opening night)? |

Least minutes? Sun Yue? I mean... I don't ever remember him playing.
Plus, Phil would never play rookies. It also seemed like we never had garbage time because the Lakers would ALWAYS lose their big leads.

Most playoff minutes is Kobe I'm pretty sure. I think maybe only Fish has more. _________________ I'm a Balliever. |

I think this record would never be broken.
Lakers having four #1 over all pick play together.
Next year we might have 2, LBJ and Bogut. _________________ Trade AD now. |

Incorrect.
Heheh. So that's two so far. I'll reveal the actual answer in a day.
This question was asked on Lakerline many years ago by Frank Pollack and EVERYONE calling in was getting it wrong all day, even Stu didnt have the right answer.
When Frank revealed the answer and explained the actual history vs what has been assumed for years, it was a real headslapper and everyone was like WOW! |

Sturdy ships meant to withstand the hell that is the Great Lakes in bad weather (smaller body of water = bathtub effect).
Edit: These ships are, themselves, called "Lakers." |

*Tip of the hat* | Never knew it was a Lake freighter our team was named after? When a pair of investors relocated the Detroit Gems of the National Basketball League to Minneapolis before the 1947 season, they sought a name that would ring true with the team's new home. Given that Minnesota is "The Land of 10,000 Lakes," they settled on Lakers. When the Lakers moved to Los Angeles before the 1960 season, their nickname was retained, in part because of the tradition the team had established in Minnesota. So Staples center is home to two nautical named teams Clippers,Lakers. _________________ "Bobbin' and weavin' and let the good get even" |

Dallas wore dark gray metallic trashbag looking unis that night. Looked like Glad bags. Odd attempts at alternate unis that got mocked by everyone. I think that's the only gm they wore them in. Kobe kinda slinked onto the sideline in an exaggerated way during the game and sat a seat away from Shaq on the bench with a cheeky grin. He had just lit Shaq up to the press for malingering and conditioning after Shaq said something to the effect of, "The team's all here" during Kobe's absence. It was a tense moment, but that was the norm during the Shaq-Kobe Wars. _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL

That is correct!
And since no one guessed the other two questions:
1. Showtime had three MVPs at once -- Magic, Kareem and Bob McAdoo.
2. After Wilt jumped from the Lakers to the new ABA, the Lakers sued him and prevented him from playing saying they had his player rights. Wilt ended up just coaching (half-heartedly) in the ABA., but he mostly just promoted his biography.

I wonder whether Pollock was right about that, because I've never seen that anywhere.
There are at least different definitions for the word "Lakers":
1. A sailing vessel,
2. Fish that live in a lake.
3. People who are associated with or live near a lake.
All I've ever seen was that the team was named in honor of the Minnesota motto "land of 10,000 lakes," but I've never seen it was specifically named after the sailing vessel "Lakers."
So I wonder if Pollock (who I've never heard of) just heard that "Lakers" was a term for a sailing vessel and assumed that was what the team was named for. You (and he) might be right; I am just skeptical of information that comes from one source and cannot overwise be verified. |
