School in Session… This is one of those games where you take the loss, but hopefully learn a lot from it.

“I thought we outplayed them most of the game but when it came down to decision making time, crunch time, that’s when their veteran experience kind of took over and they got the shots they wanted and exerted their will on us,” Larry Nance said after the 105-99 loss to the visiting Jazz.

It was a back-and-forth battle most of the night. The Lakers went on a run in the fourth quarter to pull out to a 7-point lead. They were changing ends, getting good play from the reserves (which includes Randle and Kuzma) and looking strong.

Then the wheels fell off offensively as Brandon Ingram had a series of isolations that resulted in brick after brick. It’s been a familiar story this preseason, and it certainly bit the Lakers down the stretch tonight.

Luke tried to remain positive, but also suggested Ingram learn from this.

“He’s a very gifted passer, as well,” Luke said. “He can use that more to his advantage than he is now.”

The decision making down the stretch was awful. Ingram has traded the passing from last season into turnovers or wild shots this season trying to be more of a scorer. It hasn’t been working, and it wasn’t more apparent tonight than in the spotlight of crunch time with the game on the line.

Lopez -- -- It felt like they didn’t really have an idea how to use him in this game. There were plenty of cleaner opportunities for him to stretch the floor that we ignored. If you’ve got Gobert out there, have Lopez pull him out of the paint. Just not a lot of flow or chemistry tonight. That’s why you play these preseason minutes. The final nail in the coffin for the Lakers tonight was when Lopez fumbled away a bounce pass that was going to be a sure dunk. He was probably thinking lob. Wish we had Lonzo out there to be working on that chemistry. “When we come in ready to play, we can compete with anyone,” Lopez said. The Stats: He scored 7 points on 3-11 shooting (1-5 from three, 4 boards, 1 assist, 1 steal, 1 block, 4 turnovers and 4 fouls in 22 minutes. He was a -10. The Action: He couldn’t finish a couple putback attempts under the hoop. He missed a step-back wing three. He was called for an offensive foul trying to get post position. He picked up another foul on the other end a few seconds later in the paint. He didn’t go up strong and missed the layup. He attacked off the three line and hit the runner. He attacked off the three line again and hit the running jumper going to his right. He missed a corner three and his man dunked in transition on the other end. Second Half: He missed a jumphook in the post to start the half. He drained a three when Ingram drew Gobert to him. He was called for a travel on a spin move. He missed a wide open wing three. He was called for an illegal screen, turnover. He missed an open wing three. He fumbled away an easy dunk off a great bounce pass from Caruso.

Ingram -- -- Killing us down the stretch trying to be the man on drives or pull-ups. Ridiculously bad. I’m not sure what he’s thinking or what the Lakers are thinking, but it’s clearly not working at all with him trying to be an iso scorer right now. It pretty much lost us the game tonight. You can’t waste that many possessions on indulgent iso ball and come up empty again and again down the stretch in a close game. Sheesh. The Lakers had built up a strong fourth quarter until all that. Ingram had a better start to this game than previous ones. We ran a lob play for him to get an easy one on the first possession. With Gobert packing the paint, BI was less inclined to drive all the way to the hoop early on, so he pulled up for the midrange jumper. It was looking decent at that point. He wasn’t trying to do too much. Later in the game? Back to what we’ve seen from him the rest of the preseason. Uggggly, frustrating ball. Team-low -17 on the night and it looked like that. Ruined a good start to the game with that awful fourth quarter. “Some of the shots late were a little forced, but again great experience,” Luke said. “How else you every going to learn to make those big time plays?” The fans were starting to turn a little. You could feel it in this one. The Stats: He scored 13 points on 5-12 shooting (0-1 from three, 3-4 from the line) to go with 5 boards, 3 assists, 2 steals, 4 turnovers and 1 foul in 31 minutes. He was a -17. The Action: He finished the lob from Larry to start the game. He traveled in transition shortly later. He worked off the high screen and hit the elbow pull-up jumper. He pushed out a steal and was fouled. He attacked across the lane and was blocked. He hit Nance with a Lonzo-like outlet pass for the dunk. He missed a wing three, short. He faced up on iso and drew FTs on the drive, he made both. He sank a pull-up from 16-feet off the two-man sequence. He drew FTs on a spin move in transition, he made one. He had 9 points on 3-5 shooting and 2 assists. Second Half: He grabbed a mistimed lob pass, pulled it down and reversed. Poor inbounds was swiped, but he hustled back in transition to steal it back. He then hit Lopez for the open three off the two-man game. He forced up a midrange jumper and missed (had Lopez open). He attacked the paint and was smothered badly. He attacked off the three line and scored a layup on the straight line drive. He bricked a turnaround trying to post up (getting bodied off balance). He attacked the paint (made up his mind that’s what he was going to do) and threw it away as he couldn’t get around his man, uggh. He missed a pull-up at the FT line. He clanked a pull-up in early offense next time down, uggh. Horrible iso drive, wild, not even close, turnover, and score the other way.

Caldwell-Pope -- -- His game was a little less choppy as he worked off the screens with more purpose. I’m hoping as the offense get smoothed out so will his game. Very quiet night despite playing 22 minutes. His best play was a nice two-man sequence with Zubac to set him up for the dunk. The Stats: He scored 4 points on 2-4 shooting (0-1 from three, 0-1 from the line) to go with 4 boards, 2 assists, 1 turnover and no fouls in 22 minutes. He was a -7. The Action: He curled off the Lopez screen and scored an And-1 down the middle of the lane, he missed the FT. Nice job getting to the middle off the screen-roll, he then bounced it back to the open Zubac for the two-handed dunk. Short on a deep three. He attacked a crowd on iso, turnover. Second Half: He pulled up at the elbow, let a man fly by and hit the pull-up jumper. He missed a leaning midrange jumper.

Nance -- -- Good start to the game for Nance. When he’s tipping away at boards on hustle plays. That’s one of the signs that he’s imposing his game. The hustle was there early on with a couple offensive boards, deflections, saves. “We started well, we just got to carry that throughout,” Nance said. The Stats: He scored 9 points on 4-7 shooting (1-1 from the line) to go with 3 boards, 2 assists, 1 block and 2 fouls in 18 minutes. He was a -9. The Action: He lobbed to Ingram on the set play for the Lakers first score. He choked a layup. He blocked a layup, then saved it inbounds. On the other end, he couldn’t finish the lob, got it back and scored the And-1 layup, he made the FT. He dunked off the long outlet from Ingram. He kept a board alive and then we found him shortly later for the lob dunk. He missed a wing jumper short. He was blocked on a soft layup attempt, getting stuck behind the hoop a little. Second Half: He tipped in the dribble-penetration miss from Ennis. He kicked out to Ennis for the open three.

Ennis -- -- He got the start, but Caruso took over most of the minutes and the finish. Just a different pace between the two, but Caruso was making things happen more. Slow first half, but he got better as the game went along. Still, not much impact in this one. The Stats: He scored 5 points on 2-5 shooting (1-2 from three) to go with 1 board, 2 assists, 1 steal, 1 turnover and 1 foul in 16 minutes. He was a -5. The Action: He missed a deep three with the shotclock low. He attacked off the screen and missed the layup. He curled into the paint and threw it out of bounds (should have taken a quick shot earlier to make it a two-for-one possession). Second Half: Good read on the lob, just not timed well, but Ingram still pulled it down and scored off it. He missed a drive but Nance tipped it in. Straight-line drive in early offense for a layup. He sank a wide open three on the kickout from Nance. Poor baseline D and he gave up a layup (no help either).

Randle -- -- Liked this game from Randle. I can’t blame him for having to deal with a matchup against Gobert late in the game and taking some lumps. That’s more on the coach, but Randle battled and gave some back, too. He was best in those situations when we did go to the small ball when he looked to press his footspeed advantage. The motor has been looking good. He’s changing ends quickly (especially without the ball). You’ve got to press an advantage, and if it’s not better perimeter shooting, it better be something else. Speed is his advantage offensively. Defensively, he was making things happen. He led the team with 5 steals. Not a big rebounding game, but he had some guard help. When we go small, we definitely need to rebound as a team. Once again, he was off the bench, but he was given a lot of key minutes in the fourth. The Stats: He scored 13 points on 4-10 shooting (0-2 from three, 5-7 from the line) to go with 4 boards, 1 assist, 5 steals, 2 turnovers and 3 fouls in 21 minutes. He was a +4. The Action: Poor perimeter pass and it was picked off easily. Caruso dumped the ball in his lap under the hoop on a drive and dish for the layup. He overpowered Johnson in the post for the easy score. He lost the dribble in transition and was tied up (he won the jumpball). He was stripped on iso trying to create against the shotclock (JC put him in a bad position on that one). He missed a layup on a drive. He missed a pull-up 18-footer. He was tied up trying to finish in transition, he won the jumpball. Second Half: He drew FTs attacking off the drive and dish from JC, he made both. Great job changing ends when Caruso pulled down the board and Caruso threw the hit ahead to find him for the layup at full speed. He choked a layup off a great feed from Kuzma in transition. He didn’t come to the ball on a perimeter pass and it was picked off. He swiped an inbounds pass, pushed it out and was held to prevent the break. He attacked right, spun to his strong hand and was fouled (Randle wondering why there were no FTs as he looked like he was going up). He couldn’t hold on to a lob pass that looked like he should have had. He was fouled in transition, pushing the ball up court with speed, he missed both FTs. XXX He missed a wing three. He broke up a lob to Gobert on one end, took off, took the pass from Caruso and scoed the And-1 at high speed, he made the FT. He stepped around Gobert in the high post to swipe the ball and draw FTs on the pushout, he made both. He was called for illegal D sagging off Gobert too much. Back-to-back putbacks for Gobert.

Kuzma -- -- Not sure what I liked the best in this game. Maybe the 8 trips to the FT line. He was given some opportunity to go to work on the right block early in the fourth and turned that into FTs (as well as getting the Jazz in the penalty). That’s just changing gears to find another way to score when the three ball wasn’t hitting at a high clip. Once again at the end of the night, he finished with 18 points. Defensively, he had a good challenge going against a crafty vet scorer in Joe Johnson. Typically, you don’t want rookies trying to handle that, but he held his own enough and learned some things, I’m sure. “I thought Kuz did a great job of battling. He got to experience what that’s like,” Luke said of that matchup. Kuz had one of the highlights of the game gain. In the second quarter, Kuzma took a pass at midcourt with one defender between him and the hoop. I said, “You’re in trouble, dude” and Kuz quickly made the defender look foolish with spin move at high speed at the FT line to score the layup. A guy with length and agility like that is going to make a lot of people look foolish. Got to keep getting him the ball in the open court. You want him to play more minutes with Lonzo because of that…but you also want Lonzo to play with Kuzma because he will make it easier on Lonzo. Kuzma didn’t get the start, but he got the finish. Picture that with Lonzo out there. The Stats: He scored 18 points on 5-14 shooting (2-7 from three, 6-8 from the line) to go with 4 boards, 1 assist, 1 steal, 1 turnover and no fouls in 29 minutes. He was a +4. The Action: He attacked baseline and missed the runner. He drew FTs on the roll down the lane, he made one. He missed a sideline three. He stepped back and hit a long baseline jumper. He took a pass at midcourt in stride, attacked the defender, spun to lose him badly and scored the layup. He missed a three straight away. He missed a wing three next time down on a kickout. He missed an open corner three on a kickout. He knocked a pass away on a reach in the paint, pushed up court and drew FTs, he made both. Nice challenge in the post to get a stop. He had 7 points on 2-7 shooting. Second Half: He was called for a travel on a pass. He sank a three on the feed from Caruso. He scored a layup off the interior feed from Brewer. He attacked off the three line in transition and fed Randle, who choked the layup. He missed the short lefty hook working the post. He swished a corner three on the kickout from Caruso. He iso’d in the post out of the timeout and drew FTs, he made both. He faced up at the three line, iso’d again and drew FTs once more, he made one. He missed a three off the two-man game. He missed a point-blank tip-in. He missed a pull-up three.

Clarkson -- -- Better start to this game and that seemed to carry through most of the night. Not as much dribble pounding. Certainly a couple instances where he did, but not like the previous games. That led to a much more efficient night and less of those hit and miss moments. “We’re asking him to play within the system and to make the extra passes,” Luke said. “He’s trying his best but because of that he’s had some times he’s looked a little sloppy out there.” He liked the attitude and effort for Clarkson, but stressed that “it’s just new” for Clarkson with what they want to do out there. Again, perhaps having Gobert out there limited some of the driving and ball domination. He settled into a little more midrange and then, of course, scratching out points in transition as we changed ends. The Stats: He scored 18 points on 6-8 shooting (1-1 from three, 5-5 from the line) to go with 3 boards, 2 steals, 2 turnovers and 2 fouls in 20 minutes. He was a +10. The Action: He missed a pull-up wing jumper on his first touch. He gave up an And-1 layup to Mitchell, no resistance. He posted up after taking a bounce pass on a cut and scored an easy turnaround at the front of the rim. He sank a pull-up 15-footer in transition. Nice feed to the rolling Kuzma to setup FTs. He pounded the dribble and drew FTs on a forced jumper, he made both. Great help read from the weakside to swipe the bounce pass and take it for a dunk. He had 8 points on 3-4 shooting. Second Half: He missed a runner. Nice push out and he fed Randle after drawing Gobert to earn Julius some FTs. He attacked on iso, spun and threw it away, layup the other way. He sank a wing three off the swing pass from Randle. He snaked around the screen and hit the pull-up elbow jumper. He was fouled on a loose ball scramble when Randle found him cutting to the lane, he made both. He pushed out between defenders off the turnover, was fouled and scored the And-1, he made the FT.

Zubac -- -- Short minutes as we went small ball in the second half. Not sure if those will eventually be Bogut’s minutes or Lopez. Probably both. Not much to report in this one. Had a nice dunk off the two-man sequence. A good challenge on Gobert but still gave up the score on the second effort. The Stats: He scored 2 points on 1-1 shooting to go with 2 boards and 1 foul in 9 minutes. He was a +1. The Action: He jammed off the two-man game with KCP. Second Half: He did not play in the second half.

Hart -- -- He’s always making that second and third effort defensively. That usually results in some good challenges and misses. You can see the difference with both him and Kuzma having multiple years of college experience. You don’t see as many bonehead rookie mistakes. Very steady ball. I liked seeing Luke trust him for some good fourth quarter minutes. The Stats: He scored 6 points on 2-4 shooting (1-3 from three, 1-2 from the line) to go with 2 boards and 2 fouls in 13 minutes. He was a -7. The Action: He crashed the glass to grab a miss, kicked it out and then got it back in the corner for the three. He missed a wing three on a kickout. He attacked off the three line and drew FTs at the rim, he made one. Second Half: Good challenge to force and airball. He pulled up from the wing on the other end and hit the 18-footer. He missed a tough three in the final seconds.

Caruso -- -- I think he’s won the battle of backup PG right now…but with the way contracts and roster spots are, who knows? He’s doing a good job running that second unit, but we also let him close tonight. He led both teams with 6 assists in the first half and finished with 10 assists on the night. Again, with the pace he plays at it’s more conducive to how we want to do things. Some great hit aheads in transition to reward teammates running the floor. Some nice drives and kicks or finds of teammates in the paint. He had a big score late in the game, but not a lot of that overall. His other score was a pretty sensational floater over the back of the backboard. Also really liked the effort on the glass. When your PG is rebounding (again, like Lonzo), that allows others the opportunity to run in transition. We saw one of those breaks when Caruso came up with the board as Randle was boxing out. Randle changed ends with speed and the two of them teamed up for a transition score as a result. That’s going to be the m.o. for our season and a big reason why he’s a better fit behind Lonzo than Ennis right now. “Just trying to be better than I was the day before,” Caruso said. The Stats: He scored 4 points on 2-4 shooting to go with 6 boards, 10 assists, 1 steal, 3 turnovers and 4 fouls in 32 minutes. He was a -1. The Action: He missed a pull-up 18-footer. He lobbed to Nance for the dunk off a scramble play. He broke down the D and dished to Randle for the layup. He kicked out to Hart for the corner three. His perimeter pass was picked off and he fouled. He was fouled pulling down an offensive board between three Jazz players. He took an inbounds, attacked and hit the floater over the back of the backboard. He missed an open 15-footer after his man fell. Second Half: He hit Kuzma for the three. He grabbed a board, pushed it out and hit Randle ahead of the pack for the layup. He attacked the paint and kicked out to Kuzma for a three. He knocked a pass loose on the other end to get a stop. Nice defensive board, up high to yank it down at the rim. He overpassed in the paint, then fumbled it away after it was deflected back to him. He found Randle on the hit ahead as they changed ends for an And-1 layup. He curled into the paint and banked the layup high off the glass for the score. He tried to force a pass to Ingram instead of hitting Brook who was wide open from three, turnover.

Brewer -- -- He came into the game late in the third for Ingram at the SF. The team was a +7 while he was out there during this stretch. Some decent moments on D with good challenges or taking a charge. Offensively, he helped with the tempo but didn’t make much impact on the bottomline on that end. The Stats: He didn’t score on 0-1 shooting to go with 1 board, 1 assist and 1 foul in 7 minutes. He was a +7. The Action: He did not play in the first half. Second Half: Nice challenge on Johnson on iso to get the stop. He threw a pass away, it was saved back to him and he fed Kuzma unselfishly for the layup. He drew a charge beating his man to the spot. He attacked, spun and wasn’t close on the layup.

Walton -- -- Lopez picked up quick foul trouble after 4 minutes but Luke left him in. Preseason, not a problem… The Lakers led 15-14 when the timeout came midway through the first quarter… Ennis out, Caruso in out of that timeout… Lakers down 1 when JC and Zubac came in for Lopez and KCP… Lakers down 2 when Nance sat with 3:17 left for Randle… The Lakers trailed 28-27 after the first quarter… Hart in to go with Caruso, JC, Kuzma and Randle down 1… 20 of Lakers 32 points are in the paint… KCP back in for JC, Lakers up 1… Zubac in for Randle… Lakers up 5 when Ingram came in at SF… Starters with Kuz in, Lakers up 2… Nance back in with 3 minutes left… Poor close to the half as the Jazz went on a 13-5 run… The Lakers trailed 52-49 at the half. Lakers just 1-11 from three… Lakers down 4 midway through the quarter when Kuzma came in for Nance and Caruso for Ennis… Down 2 with the bench and Ingram out there… Brewer in for Ingram… The Lakers trailed 79-77 heading into the fourth as they gave up a three with 0.2 left in the quarter on an inbounds… Lakers pushing the pace early in the fourth… Three shooting much better this half (5-7 at this point)… Kuzma getting the Jazz into the penalty early… 13-4 Laker run over 3:13 to pull out to a 7-point lead… Hart in for Brewer… Julius having to handle Gobert on the matchup now… Ingram in, sliding Hart to SG… Finally after back-to-back putback scores and a foul by Randle in the paint, Luke brought in Lopez for Randle. Got a little burned by that matchup. Good effort by Randle, though…

This team is gonna be so much Improved once Ball returns, it's amazing we stuck with the Jazz basically all game long, even with Hood out.

For what it's worth, Ingram and Randle should never, ever share the floor together. Randle's shown productivity in a positive team manner in other lineups but it's disatrous with them together.

Thanks, DB!

Hopefully having Lonzo back in game will also change the way BI plays. If not... Luke will need to play Deng/Brewer more.
The struggles of BI are on Luke. It's up to him to adjust the game and call for a reason.

What I don't like at all this preseason is how the bigs are (un)used. There was a good stretch at the start of the previous game when they went to Lopez and it worked really well. Why not stick with that? Why not feed Zu too?

Again, hopefully the pattern will change when Lonzo plays.

The overall impression, however... we might be way more competitive this season.

It's unfortunate that BI blew this game with poor iso possession after poor iso possession, but at least *squints at note cards* he knows what it means to be a Laker.

Thanks DB!!

BI discovered that challenging Gobert at the rim is not a good idea unless one comes at him hard and dunks the ball - the weak stuff will be stuffed, like this time.

Randle, Kuzma, JC with two others will bring instant offense and energy into the game, albeit with minimal defense noting Randle and JC's effectiveness

Night and Day when the Lakers have a legitimate presence in the paint (i.e. Lopez)

Despite the result it was a good game for the Lakers. It's worth noting that the Jazz have been rolling this preseason. 5-0, and the third best net rating in the league. And they actually played their starters down the stretch.

I thought from an overall standpoint, this was the best game they played this preseason. I don't understand why Luke needed to put Lopez back in late - no need to try to win this that way.

Agree BI tried to do too much - so what, its preseason. Remember when Kobe did the same vs Utah in the playoffs many years ago?

These game are for learning, not winning. What I liked was the defense overall looked pretty good. Not thrilled with the officiating either. KK seemed a little off, but it happens. Ennis not looking too good, and Caruso who has his limitations, looked better. Randle seems better coming off the bench. Someone needs to work with Nance so he can practice twisting layups because he misses too many of them. Brewer should NEVER take a 3-point shot - better, he shouldn't play. Hart looked good from what I saw. Not a JC fan because he stinks it up on D and also takes rushed shots too early in the shot clock...

Those were my observations...

I thought BI played within the flow during the first half which was positive. He won't get fixed all at one time.

I also notice that defenses are crowding him and he is not handling that very well.

He needs to trust his teammates and realize that if he passes and keeps moving that the ball will come back to him when he is in a better position to score.

Anyway the first half was a positive, a small beginning which I will not scoff at.

I'm not sure he has coached enough to be sure of it yet.

But I sure hope he will learn fast that it is only end up as a failure if he tries to build the Warriors-light here. Lets have our own game fitting our players and not replicate other teams.

Thanks DB

The Jazz had most of their vets on the court at the end, but the guy who iced the game for them was a rookie. Mitchell is a baller

Thanks again DB. That was a very winnable game, even against Utah starters. We were beating these guys. Until we went with what looks like 2 basic ideas I can't stand - 1) small ball is a formula to follow at given times like closing, no matter what the actual situation is or how fast it's costing us a lead, and 2) BI is the anointed one therefore let him iso because... uh... superstar.

BI isn't Durant yet and Randle isn't Green yet and we don't have Curry and Thompson on the wings ready for a dagger if they need an outlet. Maybe forget formula iso and stick with what got the Lakers the lead instead? Or if they absolutely must iso at the end, at least go with the only player that could possibly pull it off, Kyle Kuzma?

I agree it's not Randle's fault for the mismatch with Gobert. I actually thought Randle had an excellent game, battled hard out there, and did about everything that could have been expected of him. But I think he should have been doing it as a 4, with Lopez drawing Gobert's attention and Kuzma filling in at the 3 down the stretch alongside Caruso and Clarkson. That doesn't fit 'formula BI' but it would have won the game.

Really unfortunate ending, because up until the final 4 minutes or so this was a very enjoyable game and the Lakers were playing some of their best ball of the preseason, particularly on defense.

Forgot to mention - I thought BI was having his best game of the preseason by far, until that last unfortunate stretch at the end.

A few thoughts:

I'm hopeful that the type of game BI is playing is the result of bad coaching. Because if it is, they'll both learn to change. He needs to let the game come to him. He's trying to play, an even perhaps be, something he's not. The way I know he's playing his game?

I look for steals, deflections, blocks, etc., everybody's talking about his shot and his offense. If that's what he's talking about too, then his focus, and ours, needs to change.

I don't trust Clarkson

Kuzma is looking like a starter.

Nance needs to do everything possible to maintain his energy.

Randle needs to replicate that approach game after game.

Thanks DB!

For what it's worth, Ingram and Randle should never, ever share the floor together. Randle's shown productivity in a positive team manner in other lineups but it's disatrous with them together.

I agree. I also think that Randle deserves to start, which means that if one of the two has to step down, it should be Ingram. BI needs to earn his starting spot, which he hasn't.

DB, I'm glad you didn't mince words with BI's 4th quarter performance. That was some truly selfish basketball I saw out of BI, and it's frustrating because he hasn't done anything to show that he deserves those end-game iso opportunities. I haven't lost faith in him yet, but it's discouraging to see him play within the flow of the offense for most of the game and then inexplicably resort to hero-ball at the end of the game.

Kuz and Randle continue to impress during this preseason, and I hope they get a chance to play a lot together.

Caruso really is Lonzo-lite, which makes him the ideal back-up PG for us. I've mentioned before that Ennis hasn't looked good at all with the 1st unit, but he looked really good with the 2nd unit before Lonzo came down with the ankle injury. I'm hoping that Lonzo's return will put Ennis in a better position to succeed running the 2nd unit.

Overall, Luke has some tough decisions to make, and I hope he has the balls to make the right ones. At this point, it's clear that Kuz deserves to start and finish games for us, and Caruso looks to be our best option as the back-up PG. However, I get the feeling we'll still see BI starting and Ennis running the 2nd unit.

The Lakers need Lonzo to at least play one preseason game. Even with that the chemistry will be trash and will be one of the causes for early losses.
Love the way Caruso plays, he really pushes the ball up the court and always reverses it in half court.
I don't know what to say about BI, he's actually regressed from what he did last year. Why does he force himself to the basket against two or three defenders? He must be really unsure of his jumper, but that's something that maybe he should be working on.
DB you're right about how they used Lopez, they never took advantage of his inside game or his ability to spread the floor. Gobert needed to be put to work on the defensive side against a big man.
The Jazz wanted to win this game and Walton let them as he did not counter with his regulars early enough.

Was at the game. A few thoughts:

-Lopez is ripped.
-Kuzma is the real deal. That spin move was insane live.
-BI looked to be pressing the whole game even when playing well.
-Rudy Gobert is enormous. Listed at what 7'3? Looked to be 5 inches taller than everyone else
-Randle is like a bull in a china shop out there. I keep waiting for the game to slow down for him, doesn't look like it has.
-Nance should start. Hes a better match with Lopez.
-Hart is so solid already. Takes no plays off.
-KCP was like a ghost. I forgot he was on the team until ready DB's write up.
-Clarkson was solid, not as talkative or happy as last year. Thinks he misses his buds.
