Still waiting for a reporter to have it in them to ask the elephant in the room if he's considered playing Kuzma at the 3 and having him and Ingram battle it out. Can someone PLEASE ask him a variation of this question instead of getting it danced around?
"Does Ingram have the Small Forward position locked down, or do you see a kind of similar battle between him and Kuzma?"
See? Doesn't ruffle any feathers and should address his stance on Kuzma vs Ingram for that position. _________________ How NBA 2K18 failed the All-Time Lakers:

He'll probably give BI a month to see what he has. If they don't play well or BI struggles his hands will be forced. At least Luke can say to Magic at that point he tried. |

What, is Walton going to roll a d20 and if it rolls a 5 or 10 he's gonna start him? Comeon man...don't play games Luke. |

Luke will probably still have him come off the bench if he was top 5 in scoring during the regular season for not setting screens. |
What's crazy to me is that Luke picks out things that are positives and re-paints them as negatives.
He says Kuzma slipping screens breaks the offense, but what offense are we running in the first place? If it's all reads, as Luke wants, maybe Kuzma is just making the right read?
At least Kuzma is always moving out there. I just don't like how Luke inserts these little jabs against certain guys. You just know he's going to use them in the future to justify reducing Kuzma's minutes for whatever reasons. |
You're reading too much into Luke's words. I think he loves what Kuzma bring to the table, but he's just trying to make sure Kuz understands the importance of setting a good pick. This is especially important if it's part of a play that's mean to free up the ball handler so that other progressions can open up. It benefits Kuz as well to mix things up because teams are going to figure soon that he always slips screens. Setting good hard screens at the right time will allow him to be even more effective when he does slip those screens. |

Exactly how do you know this to be the case? Ingrams been with the team longer. They have a larger data set on who he is and therefore a greater comfort level.
I like Kuzma as a starter too, but if he doesn't get the job attributing it to politics is absurd. The cream will always rise to the top and if Kuzma deserves to be the starter, he'll get the job. |

I would've been flipping out about them passing on Monk. |
I would have too considering you had potential lights out shooters in Kennard, TJ Leaf, etc. They already know this roster is full of suspect shooters sans DLO/Lopez at the time. |
Hopefully Kuzma proves to be a better deep shooter than he was in college. |

hmm, weird battle....I mean it is pretty clear Randle has been more productive as an individual player, but Nance seems to fit better with Lopez in the starting lineup. |

Kuzma has played the 3 |
Kuzma is looking like a legit 3 each game he plays for us. If all I saw was pre season and you said he was a 3 I'd accept it and move on. My question is, since many feel that Ingram will be a 4 eventually, should we just start grooming him for that roll? It'll be years till he maybe gets the body to play stretch 4, but we can give him some minutes over the course of a few seasons and see what happens. Taj couldn't guard some of Ingram's shots, so eventually he could be a match up nightmare for other teams. Nothing too fancy for Ingram as a 4. He can just initiate the offense, make solid passes (especially from the post), take those sweet turn around J's, jump real high on rebounds, and play some good defense. That's all we would ask of him and if he's more Batum than Marvin Williams we'll be in a good place. |

Nope. He has a 💯% chance of coming off the bench in game 1.
I mean who cares if he's starting game 1?
Is he getting heavy minutes?
Is he ending games?
Is he starting towards the end of the year?
I'd care more about those questions.
But they won't be answered till the season begins. |

I'd start him at PF but that bench needs **efficient** scoring and he's where it is going to come from. |

Except those heavy minutes won't matter if the majority of them are him being played with the likes of low IQ players like Clarkson, while Kuzma would benefit greater with someone like Ball.

The team will have a better chance to win if Kuz does not play in a lineup that has JC? Or are you coming with another goal in mind? |

Can't have both Randle and Ingram off the bench, least of all for their combined shooting woes (unless one of them is playing center). |

Kuzma has played the 3 |
yeah but they're constantly dancing around the possibility that Ingram will actually have to earn that starting spot if Kuzma is outplaying him.
I know the great excuse is "Well yeah Kuzma is a better player but we need that spark off the bench."
here's the thing, if we have such belief in Ingram to eventually "get it" then wouldn't it be better for his development for him to work through that going against other 2nd units and if he plays well enough finishing games?
Honestly if we have such faith in Ingram's ability as a scorer and as a shooter then why not take advantage and have him against other 2nd units and have him and JC try to anchor the bench offense?
If the Lakers drafted Brandon Knight one year, and then Damian Lillard the next year, how much of this forum would be up in arms by this point if Luke wanted to try to relegate Lillard to the bench to keep starting Knight? As well as avoiding/dancing around the question of whether or not Lillard should be starting over him despite Lillard obviously being better.
At this point what is the better solution? For the Lakers to come out of the gates better, with more balance, floor spacing and scoring as well as a unit that Lonzo can run with and the bench of BI and Clarkson to come in to maintain that.
Starters:
Lonzo Ball
KCP
Kyle Kuzma
Julius Randle
Brook Lopez
Bench:
Tyler Ennis / Alex Caruso
Jordan Clarkson / Josh Hart
Brandon Ingram / Luol Deng
Larry Nance Jr. / Thomas Bryant
Ivica Zubac / Andrew Bogut
Or... the Lakers to consistently come out slow and the bench of Kuzma and Clarkson to come in and try to bail them out?
Starters:
Lonzo Ball
KCP
Brandon Ingram
Julius Randle
Brook Lopez
Bench:
Tyler Ennis / Alex Caruso
Jordan Clarkson / Josh Hart
Luol Deng
Kyle Kuzma / Thomas Bryant
Larry Nance Jr / Ivica Zubac / Andrew Bogut
I'll take the former. _________________ How NBA 2K18 failed the All-Time Lakers:

Thats 1 reason I wouldnt wanna start Kuz, we dont have a Lou Will caliber player this year to get us buckets on the 2nd Unit
JC is too inconsistent. Kuzma, JC, Randle, Hart is a great 2nd Unit.
They combined for 55 pts vs Utah last game. Thats pretty impressive against a defensive minded team like the Jazz. |
