Do you honestly think it makes a difference? Like in the 4th quarter, John Wall is bringing the ball up court and thinks "Man, f--- Lavar Ball!" and plays harder? Once the game starts, he's going to play his game regardless.
And even if I accept that premise as true, Lonzo will get better by playing better competition like Kevin O'Connor mentioned in his article today.
Quote: | LaVar put a target on Lonzo’s back, but the extra attention the 19-year-old receives may ultimately be the best thing for his development. Being challenged by people better than you is how you improve faster, no matter what you do in life. In fact, Lonzo himself used to play against eighth graders when he was in elementary school to challenge himself. “My boys have been playing like this since they were little,” LaVar told The Ringer’s Danny Chau in 2016. |
|
yes, I do...that would be the premise of my decision to write the post. Kevin O'Connor may be the single last opinion that I would ever use in an attempt to support my position.
btw, did I tell you that I was glad your posting again? Oh, I didn't...... |
So you honestly believe in your heart that John Wall wouldn't try his absolute hardest if Lavar didn't make a comment?
And I'm just curious why you think Kevin O'Connor's opinion that competition makes people better is at all controversial or wrong. Isn't that one of the reasons you liked Josh Jackson, that the Big 12 had superior teams? This isn't even really a new opinion, either. "Iron sharpens iron" is an expression that goes back to the Bible. |
I believe players can be additionally motivated when called out, and I simply think O'Connor is a wannabe basketball hipster....not even an actual bball hipster....just a wannabe....I do not value his opinion. |
Kobe made a career of sharper focus when he was challenged. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

It honestly doesn't sound like Wall was bothered by it.

Quote: | “It’s not the son’s fault,” Wall said. “He went back out there and had a better game [on Friday], and that’s all he got to do, is go out there and play. He’s not going to do any talking anyway. Even if he get killed, or don’t get killed, or kills somebody, he’s not going to be the guy talking. … He’s a great kid from what I’ve seen on the outside looking in; I haven’t met him personally.” |
But honestly, I hope Wall and everyone else brings their A game against Lonzo and the Lakers. Here's an article when LeBron was entering the NBA.
http://www.espn.com/espn/wire/_/id/1640859
Quote: | James enters the NBA as the most hyped prep-to-pro rookie in league history, and like all No. 1 picks, he'll be a marked man in every arena he enters.
"It's not like this is going to be an easy thing," Minnesota's Kevin Garnett said. "He should have an endorsement with Target, because he has a bull's-eye on his back."
Opponents have been pressuring James in the backcourt when he brings the ball up, getting a measure of his ballhandling skills. Marcus Banks of the Celtics overplayed him to the right during summer league, daring James to show whether he could drive to his left. Tayshaun Prince of the Pistons blanketed him on the perimeter, forcing James to dribble and create. Devean George of the Lakers was the first to back way off.
"He's going to be scrutinized more probably than any rookie in the league, but right now they're going to step back and see what he has," Pistons director of scouting George David said. "I think everyone realizes one of his main assets is his body. He doesn't have a body for a kid his age, and that allows him to be explosive, to be quicker than a lot of people his age. The main thing now is to see how well he can shoot the basketball." |
If Lonzo wants to be the best point guard in the league, he's going to have to step up and take everyone's best punch just like LeBron, Magic, Durant, and the long list of rookies who entered with hype.

I just look at YouTube views and appearances. Episode 9 of the Facebook show has over 2 million views and that’s just one link, not even counting other episode 9 links.
Lonzo seems to be respected on the court. In all the games thus far, opponents look like they respect him. Lonzo’s teammates seem to like him too.
This seems to be one of those situations where we see Lavar as normal in 10-20 years. He’s challenging status quo in certain industries/areas and so that historically draws attention and can be perceived as threatening, but then society evolves and then Melo or Lonzo will be the ones shaking their heads at the new generation and long for the old days of loud dad and Facebook reality shows |
I don’t care whether Lavar is “winning.” He doesn’t play for us. |

I don't care if we are 1-7 after this run of games, as long as we show progress and the team plays hard. Of course I'd prefer 3-4 or 4-3 but as long as they play better defense and look more fluid on offense, I'll enjoy watching it. |

Wizards - L
Raptors - W (Toronto's third road game in 5 nights after road battles with the spurs + warriors, they should be exhausted)
@Jazz - L (b2b road game in utah)
Pistons - W (Detroit's third road game in 4 nights after clippers + warriors)
@Trailblazers - L
I think we'll go 2-3. _________________ substance over style |

Unexpected but delightful win. Will gladly take that. Wonder if we can go 3-2 on this 5 game stretch. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

Toronto could have been win #2 in this stretch but low energy and Luke’s substitutions did them in. Only chance at 2-3 now looks to be the pistons game. |

Well (bleep), I thought the pistons would be win #2 in 5 game stretch but they just looked good in beating the LA Griffins. |

Eating crow on my prediction. Not holding out hope for Portland game just because it's Portland but starting 4-4 would be amazing. |
