It won't close until we see how we use the main thing we traded him for--cap space.

for some anyways...

If we traded Russell strictly for one year of Lopez + Josh Hart and Thomas Bryant and the right to take Kuzma 15 minutes earlier than we would have, then holy hell.

Do you see how we're playing? Some free-agent's going to take that money. And DLO ceiling is very evident.

Jim? Is that you?

We probably would have gotten Kuzma if the trade didn't go through. But who knows? Maybe the Nets take him, maybe they trade the pick to another team who had Kuz higher on their board. We can only go by what happened. Magic traded Dlo for Lopez and the pick that ended up Kuz and cap space for next season. I wasn't a fan of the trade, but I can see why he did it. Emplay outlining how few teams will actually have cap space next off season really brought it home for me. Clearing both Moz and Deng off our cap would have been either impossible or very expensive. As is, we got a solid guy in Lopez and a pick who turned into someone who is looking like he has a ton of potential. If Magic delivers two worthy max guys next season (or one superstar like PG and some solid pieces around him) and it's all good. Even better if we are a fairly solid team this season, which so far we are looking like we have the potential to be.

Amazing how one simple change in the starting lineup changes everything.

Yep.

Wow, some free agent?? Maybe we can get this year's Deng/Mozgov? Agreed that DLO's ceiling is very evident. Yet to be seen if we'll actually sign someone whose ceiling exceeds it.

just to be clear....what changed? Kuzma balled out as usual, and we barely beat a crappy Brooklyn team. i do not have an issue with Kuzma starting, but all that happened was his production was removed from the bench and placed in the starting lineup. Ingram had a solid night, nothing special....Lopez performed how he did last night pretty much, but made a few more shots.....Ball and KCP had pedestrian nights....just not seeing what really changed.

So Kuzma and Lopez had nothing to do with it? You put them on the Nets, and Russell's +/- is the same, with the same outcome?

^Yet Lonzo had 0 turnovers and the best plus/minus on his team, while DLO had 4 turnovers and was average in plus/minus compared to the rest of his team.

THIS is a reasonable take on the DLO trade. The real litmus test is who we pick up this coming summer.

the zero turnovers is great.....but his usage % was probably significantly lower than DLo's....still, zero TO's is always good......not sure the rest of what you said means anything.

ummm well --- not sure any of what you've said means anything -- we're in an objectively better position. Yes - there's risk -- but like they say - no risk ....

Nice! Looked like a fun game to be at on TV. I hope you screamed some abuse at the incompetent refs.

Lonzo keeps getting "lucky" and putting up great plus/minus numbers by Luke's brilliant sub patterns!

Luck is when preparation meets opportunity.

You act like 8/24 is good?

Comparing crap to crap...well you're left with just a bunch of crap.

Define "you guys" Lanny. We won. 124-112. That goes for those of us Laker fans who see value in DLO, and those who don't. I didn't see anyone pissed that we were pulling away from Brooklyn in the second half.
