The call was complete bulls hit.
Even yesterday, giving a flagrant 1 on Brook Lopez was complete bulls hit.

I think it's a good call. What is Carmelo doing, exactly? It looks like he is going out of his way to hit the defender in the head with his elbow.

Anyway, for an explanation of the call, there is a video at this link:

I remember Kobe got suspended for unnatural act of basketball. Can't remember what that act was or move was.

What I find interesting is that the NBA rewards players with the ball for creating contact with free throws and penalizes the defenders with a foul. So much so, that players often seek to "draw" a foul rather than make a basket.

He got suspended for hitting Ginobili and Jaric in the face. The “unnatural basketball act” part came up in the same context as with Carmelo. Was it inadvertent? In this case, you can see the point. What is Carmelo doing here?

I wonder if Bruce Lee got suspended a game for kicking Wally Z in the face.

A definitely intentional elbow by Kobe was to Mike Miller. Today, that would be no bueno. Direct retaliation.

And yet Dahntay Jones and Bruce Bowen make it their career to injure star players and get away with murder.

Today, they'd have a video review of the play by Miller, and he'd probably get tossed.

Exactly. Those (bleep) went out of their way to injure people with their (bleep), but they get a pass.

Kobe's suspension for his hit against Ginobli was (bleep).

Jones fell down during one of our Nuggets series and grabbed Kobe's ankle as he ran by, causing him to do the splits. Only time I ever seen that. Of course, he didn't get suspended because it was a playoff gm. The Bell clothesline in 06 was only good for 1 game, same amount of time guys who came off the bench in Suns/Spurs series got for doing nothing. Shaw got suspended a game in the 2000 Porty series for taking one step onto the floor during a scuffle, yet in the final secs of Gm4, Pippen ran up and jabbed John Salley in the head with a closed fist and got nada.

There isn't much doubt in my mind that Kobe was sending a message with those elbows. If you get all up on him and try to block the shot, you'll pay the price. I can't name a good post player who didn't know how to use his elbows to get some more space to work with.

That's 10 years ago's news now. If Reggie is complaining the league is soft now, he should realize that his own flopping and histrionics is something that all of today's players grew up watching. He was one of the biggest whiners ever and now from the safety of the courtside seats he thinks everything should be a "play on".

His flops came with a foot in your groin. He was offensive with his flops. Just putting that out there. He must feel superior to the Euros and Chris Pauls who drop like those cute little fainting goats with no foot to the groin. Not disagreeing with you. He was putrid as a whiner, running up to refs with prayer hands at his neck. Almost as bad as Barkley and Ainge.
