Apparently only 7 of these planes have been built, and 3 have crashed. |

A family friend of ours and his wife died in a small plane crash last July. I don't get how anyone can fly those small planes but he's done it so many times before and this unexpectedly happened. |

Sounds like an experimental plane. Those smaller planes are more susceptible to accidents due to turbulence not to mention all those little things that could go wrong that a bigger plane with multiple redundancies would not experience. Also the pilot licenses to fly these personal planes are less stringent. |

What horrific news. This one really hurts because I am the same age as he was, so I followed his entire career and am well aware of just how great of a player he was, and saw him pitch so many times. Baseball lost a possible future Hall Of Fame pitcher in Jose Fernandez last year, and now it has lost another potential Hall Of Fame pitcher whose career recently ended with Halladay. Few pitchers have ever had a peak as good. He led the league in complete games for 5 seasons in a row. He had 67 complete games over his career, which was 30 more than any other pitcher during the same time period. In a 10-season run from 2002-2011, he was an All-Star 8 times. His career ERA+ was 131; to compare, Curt Schilling's was 127. He also memorably threw a no-hitter in a postseason game, and had a 2.37 ERA over 38 postseason innings overall. His 3.38 career ERA in the era in which he pitched was also outstanding, particularly considering that he pitched his home games in Toronto and Philadelphia, two absolute hitters' parks.
Overall, he was 203-105 with a 3.38 ERA and a 1.178 WHIP. He was an 8-time All-Star, 2-time Cy Young Award winner (including once in the AL and once in the NL), and received top-5 Cy Young Award votes 7 times. When you're that great compared to your peers, and when the history of the game cannot be written without you (he threw a no-hitter in the postseason!), you should be in Cooperstown.
Oh, and everyone who covered him says he was an extremely nice person to be around. RIP, Doc. You'll be missed and appreciated greatly by this Dodger fan, who always wanted to see you play for the Blue. |

Brutal, way too young for a great pitcher and by all accounts a great guy.
I feel bad for his wife and sons. _________________ Love, Laker Lanny |

Of all the pitchers in the MLB, only him and Don Larsen pitched a no-hitter in the postseason. Don Larsen got a perfect game in the World Series and Roy Halladay got a no hitter in the playoffs in 2010 against the Reds. He also pitched a perfect game in the regular season against the Marlins as well. |

Probably the best starting pitcher of the last 20 years.
Dominated most of his career in the AL East, not an easy thing to do. As I Yankee fan I hated my team facing him, but always respected him. Truly one of the best I've ever seen. RIP Mr. Hallladay |

RIP Roy Halladay...Great pitcher!
Apparently, the guy who designed the plane died in a crash just last May (along with the company's chief engineer). I don't see how these planes (jet-skis with wings) would be allowed to fly again... |

Apparently, Mr. Halladay was taking a few too many liberties with the maneuvers before the plane crashed.

Quote: | TMZ Sports has obtained footage shot by boaters who say the ex-MLB star's plane was going from 100 feet in the air down to 5 feet and then back up again ... repeatedly.
The boaters were so shocked by the flying pattern, they pulled out their cell phones to capture the bizarre dips and rises.
Moments later, the plane crashed into the Gulf of Mexico -- and the boat full of witnesses raced over to the crash scene to see if they could help. Once they arrived, it was clear the pilot was dead.

Never understood why people take their chances on small run experimental aircraft. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know
