Favorite, least favorite, best dancer, worst dancer, best routine, worst routine, choreography relative to other teams, should they can their coach, etc

Personally, I think their routines have been pretty lackluster thus far. They choose good songs from time to time, even most of the time, but more often than not the actual dance routine just does not sync up with the song very well.

For the sake of this thread, let's pretend the Jazz Girls don't exist.

Don't get the point of cheerleaders. No one really cares.

Outdated concept.

Better than having a giant bobcat dunking off of a trampoline, though.

Is there any team that doesn't have dancers? I agree with ring, though. If you want to gawk at women do it in private and on the internet like normal people these days...

Hard to judge an entire corp of dancers on television, but Charlotte and Memphis have the best “talent” from my simple eye test.

I’ll let someone else do the analytics.

The Laker Girls have zero mystique. They seem to be holding on to more traditional/less slutty wardrobes, but the dancing is vanilla and robotic as hell.

To be fair, most team dance choreography is vanilla and robotic, but the Lakers’ are extra bland.

Where’s Paula Abdul when you need her?

To be fair, they used to be unique back in the 80's...
But now pretty much all the NBA teams hire professional dancers and some of them even change teams. So the mystique is no longer there anymore.

Not to sound like a d-bag but the Laker Girls haven't been great looking in years.... there are honestly better looking women in the stands at Staples.

Lisa Estrada has since been promoted to VP of Entertainment and Facilities, these days Jessica's managing the Laker Girls as well as the game/entertainment operations. It's likely things will continue to be kept close to tradition since the days when Dr. Buss introduced the first squad.

The candidate pool hasn't been what it used to be during the championship years. Just 7 years ago, they'd have 400 candidates line-up outside the Toyota Sports Center, this year it was down to around 250 and they've had a number of alums and candidates try out for other teams in the area (e.g. Rams).

They prefer candidates who've had extensive dance backgrounds (at least 8 years) so dancers who'd make the Heat squad would not necessarily be a lock for the Lakers squad. Community outreach such as visiting schools, charity appearances, and team events is all part of what one signs up for, so the total time commitment including practices and games is rather significant.

As for any improvement, they should consider adding wider variety of costuming for the squad. The Knicks City Dancers seem to do well in this regard at MSG.

Loving the discussion here, guys and gals. Plenty of good points are being brought up and I find myself agreeing with most of them - except for those that denigrate the idea of an NBA team having dancers.
