I think Paul George is a virtual lock to sign here this summer.
LeBron James will probably be in play shortly after George commits.
Cousins can probably be had as well, but I don’t think signing him would be the best basketball move with George and James already committed.
I think if you sign George and James and Cousins that one of George or Cousins will be unhappy playing in what’ll probably be a much more limited role than what they are accustomed to, and after taking paycuts, that could lead to a bad team environment.
I believe you have to sign George. I also believe that, if he’s in fact available, you have to sign James as well. Those two are no-brainers to me. The Lakers cannot pass them up.
Signing Cousins is risky, not because of his personality or play but because from a team chemistry standpoint, George or Cousins’ roles become diminished, and I’m sure neither George or Cousins would be signing up and taking paycuts to be mere spot up shooters. They’d be unhappy.
I’d prefer resigning Randle and Lopez instead of signing Cousins — Lopez to a “wink-wink” one-year deal for 5 mill and Randle to either the 5.5 million dollar qualifying offer or a four-year 40-46 million dollar deal.
I’d give Lopez another one-year deal the summer of 2019, this time for around 15 mill..
In the summer of 2020, when James is considerably older and much more prepared to be a lesser offensive option, I’d make a very strong play for Anthony Davis using an extended Ingram and Randle as bait.
To me, Lopez should be the starting center next year with Randle taking the majority of those minutes and finishing most games.
I think the roster should look like this:
PG - Ball - (James)
SG - George - Hart
C - Lopez - Randle
PF - Nance - Kuzma
SF - James - Ingram
Another team with eight guys in double figures, IMO. |

Continues to fascinate me how much some completely gloss over Cousin's flaws. His track record as a team cancer spans several years and multiple coaches and teammates. Yet once he puts on a Laker uniform he will suddenly change for the better? One hell of a risk considering the moves and contract needed to add him as a face of the franchise type player.
My choice would be Lopez re-signed for a reasonable couple years and see if Zubac or Bryant can develop into a reliable back up. Randle re-signed with occasional small ball duties.
Another back-up option would be McGee. Would give some solid athletic second unit run. Would fit into the fast paced system the Lakers are attempting. |

He's not very good at center. |
If you have Lebron and PG13 does it really matter? |
Then put LeBron at C. Yeah, it kinda matters. |
I would love to! I don't think he'd be down for it, however.
The point is if you spend $65m on two players you have to be willing to cut corners at some positions. Nance at a center is a trade off I'm betting they're willing to make. |
If we got Bron and PG, id have Nance be small ball center and instead try and go get a cheaper guy like Dedmon or something to be the center. |
For whatever reason, name has just bombed as a small ball center, but works as a four. |
Nance is no Center, even Luke has given up on that. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

It fascinates me how some people live in the past and can’t see the present. Cousins has been a good teammate in NO with no problems. Plus he worked hard in the offseason to get his body in NBA shape and the results are impressive. They love him in NO and will do everything they can to keep him. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

just cause you change opinions, does not mean you improve opinions....Boogie is not a good dude....countless stories of how he treated teammates, team staff, and even lower level front office personnel while in Sacramento. I mean when the little old lady in the ticket office gets nervous every time your around.....there is something wrong with you.
I have only heard one negative account in New Orleans, and that was from the radio guy for Memphis....but he claimed the optics look like his Pelican teammates already are tired of his antics and do not enjoy playing or being around him. |

I haven’t heard any of that on the black and gold podcasts that I listen to, they have reported the opposite. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |
