I've never understood how someone who was such a blackhole on offense and so awful on defense was the centerpiece of those perennial 50+ win Memphis teams. How does that work if D'Antoni was correct about the post-up being the most inefficient play in basketball?

Because their wins didn't have anything to do with their offense. They were top 3 in defense and middle of the pack to lower than that on offense. They won in spite of a very mediocre and at times inept offense.

So what did Zach Randolph have to do with any of their success? He was one of the worst defenders in the league. Slow and couldn't jump.

2 all-star games. 1 all-NBA third team. Career average about 17/9. Good player, good career despite some bumps. Not in the HOF discussion.

That was his rep early in his career. At Memphis though, he became more of a team player and provided solid defense. Much different player in the second half of his career than the first. Not close to a Hall of Famer though

I think he would fall short of even the Hall's pitiful standards.

Yep, Zach Randolph has actually been involved in playoff runs, if T-Mac can get in despite not doing anything in the post season then Randolph should get in, he's been a 20/10 threat for most of his career.

Someone like Carmelo is a shoe-in and has even less playoff success than Randolph.

That's because the HOF is mostly about names and that's it.

I don't think he will even be considered.

Carmelo is a no-brainer Hall of Famer. 25 ppg for his career (14th best in NBA history), 10 all-star games, 6 all-NBA teams.

Zach isn't in his league or in Tmac's league. Zach is a two time all star who averaged 17 ppg. Tmac made 7 all-star teams and 7 all-NBA teams,

Zach really didn't have much playoff success. He got to the conference finals once and his team lost 0-4. He played 16 years and only got past the first round 3 times. Basically post season success only seems to matter to Hall of Fame voters if you win rings
