|
|
Seeing how Lakers lately have been having poor 1st quarters, I decided to look at some data and how our starters poor 1st quarter starts have a cause and effect relation to our wins and loses. Well, it seems that having slow 1st quarter starts so far have guaranteed losses and vice-versa:
A) Lakers are 0-13 winless when trailing in the 1st quarter of a game aka a big fat 0% chance of winning so far this season.
B) Lakers have been outscored a total of 104 points in those loses by opposing teams in the 1st quarter; Lakers have been trailing in the 1st quarter by an average of 7.4 points. Ouch!
C) On the opposite side, Lakers are surprisingly 8-1 (89%) when actually ending the 1st quarter with a lead. Basically all our 8 wins came when we were up in the 1st.

very telling stat
do I think that if kooz and randle were starting that would change everything? no, but I think we would get off to better starts for sure and this stat suggests that might help _________________ one dog goes that way the other dog goes the other way |

That's a good stat.
Are they also undefeated when leading after 1st? |

During the preseason I made a thread that the starting rotations and benched weee so unbalanced. I mean you can clearly see it. Our starters have a hard time scoring and lays an egg for the bench to carry the scoring load. Doesn’t make sense Luke. _________________ Tacos |

Lakers are a much better 8-1 W/L when leading after the 1st. _________________

Not surprising. Luke’s favorite go to lineup digs too big of holes; it’s actually amazing the bench units erease those big deficits. |

Lakers need another firepower in there for sure. Only so much you can do with Ingram/KCP taking majority of all the starters shots. _________________ Tacos

lol
I guess the point that I was trying to make is that a look at some advanced stats (heck even just +/-) of all Lakers in the 1Q would be telling. |

Start Kuzma. Let’s see how Nance comes off the bench. Maybe he can get his offense going against second units. We already know Kuz can get his either way. |

Kuz and Jules should be playing most of the minutes. I really like nance but he’s a role player at best. Not a starter. With Lonzo/nance we are playing 3 on 5 offensive scoring wise. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

change your title to say "after 1st quarter"
you current phrase implies that even if we go down 0-2 after first bucket from other time that we will lose the game. _________________ Billions Billions Billions |

Yeah, but defensively we'll still be awful. |

Sure is a good thing that our second most played lineup and our current starting lineup is one that has gigantic issues offensively. =/ |

We don’t have enough 2 way play to justify nance at starting PF. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

Nance is not a starter with the way our roster is setup. He can be like the Roberson of a starting lineup but that's it. _________________ one dog goes that way the other dog goes the other way |

There's an unfounded fear in this forum that we would immediately suck at defense the moment Nance goes to the bench. There is no evidence at least so far that would even suggest that this could happen. We actually climbed to 4th in defensive rating when he was out. Our defensive rating with Kuz in the starting lineup is actually slightly higher than with Nance in there contrary to what people think. And our offensive rating is way way better with Kuz as starting PF. |
