Kuz and Jules should be playing most of the minutes. I really like nance but he’s a role player at best. Not a starter. With Lonzo/nance we are playing 3 on 5 offensive scoring wise.

Yeah, but defensively we'll still be awful.

We don’t have enough 2 way play to justify nance at starting PF.

Or Kuz. The point is that we are still going to lose regardless who starts.

Aren’t we top 10?

Hell no we are 26th allowed in points.

There's an unfounded fear in this forum that we would immediately suck at defense the moment Nance goes to the bench. There is no evidence at least so far that would even suggest that this could happen. We actually climbed to 4th in defensive rating when he was out. Our defensive rating with Kuz in the starting lineup is actually slightly higher than with Nance in there contrary to what people think. And our offensive rating is way way better with Kuz as starting PF.

Ah no I said that we will suck defensively regardless who starts at PF, and another reason why we lose is that we don't get points in the clutch because we lack a closer.

Then go look up the stat of total defense instead of complaining to me about it.

We would be top 5 if we give up fewer points.

Seeing how Lakers lately have been having poor 1st quarters, I decided to look at some data and how our starters poor 1st quarter starts have a cause and effect relation to our wins and loses. Well, it seems that having slow 1st quarter starts so far have guaranteed losses and vice-versa:

A) Lakers are 0-13 winless when trailing in the 1st quarter of a game aka a big fat 0% chance of winning so far this season.

B) Lakers have been outscored a total of 104 points in those loses by opposing teams in the 1st quarter; Lakers have been trailing in the 1st quarter by an average of 7.4 points. Ouch!

C) On the opposite side, Lakers are surprisingly 8-1 (89%) when actually ending the 1st quarter with a lead. Basically all our 8 wins came when we were up in the 1st.

Access Sportsnet just brought up a similar stat tonight saying that the Lakers have been outscored in the 1st quarter. McGee asked the question if it’ll be time for Luke to change the starting line-up. Worthy chimed in saying probably not, not unless Lakers losing streak keeps growing.

Here’s another one:

Kuzma starting, Lakers are 5-6.

Nance starting, Lakers are 3-8.

People worried about what rank our defensive rating this season will be are hilarious!

Who cares!?

We are -6 games under .500, that’s all the reason you need.

Being in the top 10 in defensive rating means NOTHING when you’re LOSING.

It’s readily apparent that Kuz needs to start. The offensive boost we get is significant, while the defensive drop off is minimal (if any). It’s also better long term as no matter who we get in FA, we will need shooting at that PF spot.

It's what's giving them a chance in these games. What's really costing them is the boneheaded mistakes throughout and especially down the stretch.

Yeah that .5 DRTG really tells the story.

Does anyone want to breakdown the SOS during these spans?

We had a better record, and were a better offensive and defensive team when Larry wasn't even in the games and Kuzma and Randle got bigger roles.

You can try to diminish it all you want, but the Lakers were a better team when Larry was out than they were with the inflated role Luke gave him.

Doesn't this type of stat or research fall under analytics? Didn't they upgrade that department? Not that any of us here on LG needed an analytics department to tell us we shouldn't LOAD the freaking bench. Luke and his idiotic bench-centric coaching. Been complaining about this ever since he took the helm.

Lakers should hire a real experience coach, and create a new position called the Bench Coach. Luke would probably be thrilled with that demotion.

yeah we majorly upgraded that department. Luke just doesn't listen. He 'takes into consideration' but ultimately is always going to do what he wants instead of admitting he may be wrong and trying what the data has said to try. Worst thing that could happen in his mind is that he'll be wrong. So we see what he prioritizes.
