Speaking realistically, which scenario is more likely?

Trade, as long as you consider dealing Deng, Clarkson or Randle big

I think Lakers will give Luke until the ASB to turn the team around or he’s out.

Assuming you mean that which one is more likely to take place before the season is over, I put the odds at firing Luke at 5% and of making a trade at 55%

I will be very surprised if the Lakers fire Luke. I am confident they will be able to get 1-2 major free agents in the off season. If that happens, Luke gets a fresh start. If he still can't produce then, his job may be in danger, but not before then.

I wouldn’t be surprised if you end up being right.

Indeed

None of that is happening. Just accept the reality of where the lakers are.

Given the magnitude the Lakers put on hiring Luke I cant see how the Lakers can fire him this season. It will just look very bad that the Lakers wont give a promising coach atleast 2 years to try to turn things around.

I think the chances of Luke getting fired are virtually nil. I don't think anyone realistically expects this team to contend for a playoff spot, so he's safe even if we end up in the 13th or 14th spot.

There are basically two types of trades that could happen. We could bundle Deng with an asset or move Clarkson to clear cap space. Or we could trade for a free agent like George or Cousins that we are targeting as a free agent. I think either kind of deal is unlikely.

My guess is this team will be ravaged in December, and sink to the bottom of the west. We will do better as the schedule improves but end up as the 11th or 12th spot. The three key young players -- Ball, Ingram and Kuz -- will go up and down, frustrating fans who want clear signs of a promising future.

The season will end and then we see if Magic's big free agent plan pans out. If it doesn't LG gets put on suicide watch

Just the nature of disgruntled fanbase tired of losing. Some number of fans wanted to trade Randle, now they want him to start. Lonzo was going to be the next Magic, now they want to trade him. Luke was so good that he was going to take a bunch of rookies and journeymen to the playoffs and now they want him gone.

The only coach I could see taking this group and getting them to play better is Stevens and that's only because he's done it before with Boston and at Butler.

I get it's tough to be patient as a fan, so that's the FOs job - to have a strategy and look past the game to game noise and evaluate overall progress and make sure the trends are in the right direction. The improvement in defense is one trend in the right direction. Of course, the decline in offense is not. However, it's only 23 games in so probably need a bigger sample.

I doubt the Lakers fire Luke, at least this year. Firing a coach in the middle of the season is never a good look.

They will not fire Luke. They will give him a chance to coach with decent players / star players before they decide to pull his plug.

Team results = coaches job security and its not fair to Luke that the team is inexperienced and cant convey results.

His rotations are a little suspecious, but guess its a learning curve from top to bottom.

He’ll figure it out.

Trade is more likely. The team sucks, a new coach would win what? A couple of more games?

When you consider that trades and or FA's are our new reality, the rookie coach is not the priority right now.

There's no turning this team around. They just aren't very good.

Fire Luke is more likely. It's a 0.001% chance vs a 0.0001% chance imo.

The topic already states the roster is a major issue.. so you want to fire the coach of a projected 30 win team?

I think the easiest immediate adjustment might be those playoff expectations. Even if "perfect coach" got this team, this year into the playoffs; what is the result?

If fans are on the edge with these losses, a first round sweep would make them overjoyed? I'd be thrilled with making the playoffs, but that's because it would mean these guys greatly over-achieved.

Would be surprising if Luke's job requirement was the playoffs. The FO and Luke are both only a couple months removed of the JIMBO era. The fact we forget that means they're all doing a wonderful job in such a short time.

Compared to "tank until mozdeng is off the books" i don't think you remove anyone giving the fanbase this new found hope. Your hope/expectations/anger at losses is proof they're doing great. The last Vp of Ops had us believing in TheProcess2.0.
