Maybe Luke, a Celtic fan, is tanking for a higher pick for his favorite team.

I had the TV on, and I was in the other room, but I could have sworn I heard Magic on Spectrum saying that we are gonna get a shooting coach even though Luke didnt think we needed one he wont have a choice in the matter.

Anyone else hear this or something like it?

In Luke's defense, maybe there just is not someone with a STRONG University of Arizona connection on the market....

Don't forget Randle, he's in that list too.

It seriously bums me out that Randle and Luke aren't clicking this season. I thought they had a fun dynamic last year and it seemed that Luke was a big influence in shaping his game as a passer

Luke lied to Randle and a few others, I doubt there is much trust.

Can you fill me in on this one? What did he lie to him about?

He lived there from age 5 to age 7; I won't pretend to know which is his favorite team, but had lived in Boston during that period means nothing.

Still, this kind of thing doesn't happen in professional basketball. Everybody (coaches, players,...) has a favorite team in their childhood, but no one in their right mind favors his childhood team when representing another. That's a fan perspective.

When we hired Luke last year, I said he need at least 2 years to show what he's got. We took a risk in hiring a rookie coach, so he should be given time to learn, as any other rookie.

Two of the main complains I had last year are being handled: our defense is WAAAAY better (we can improve, still) and his hockey subs are gone. His rotations are far from good, but he's mixing players from 1st and 2nd unit, and had shortened rotations. What was down right terrible, now is simply bad.

But, we still have a couple of issues he should address if he wants to be there for year 3:

- Stubbornness: once he gets a fixed idea in his mind, no practical result will move him. He insists in playing Nance and Lopez as starters, although the team was clearly better with Kuzma starting and Randle is playing great. We can go on with many things we think "why Luke doesn't change that?" and come up with Stubbornness as the answer. It's good when you have a clear vision and you stick to it, but it's wise to recognize when that vision is flawed.

- Staff: we clearly lack some important pieces in the staff: shooting coach, an X's and O's guy, a defensive specialist. His main assistants are copycats of himself and bring nothing different to the table. He should look for assistants who complete him.

PG.Ball
SG.KCP
SF.Ingram
PF.Kuzma
C.Randle

What do guys think of this team being coached by D’antoni? How many games could they win?

Randle - Has shown the ability to anchor an entire defense. I haven’t seen a player with his strength and mobility in a very long time. His rim protection has also gotten ALOT better. Based on his defense alone i consider him a top 3 prospect on this team. There is no center that can pubish him on the block, even then we have long versatile players to double. Watch out when you miss Dmarcus cousin or marc gasol because randle is a bullet shot of a canon and with a team constructed to run and gun he will easily average 20-10 once he gets confortable.

Kuzma - Mr. Buckets: He can do it all. 3pt, transition, post ups, screen and roll, you mention it. Clear cut starter.

Ingram - #1 prospect for his ability to isolate. His ability to close out games will be huge you can never have enough options in the last minutes of a game. He has to be more aggressive on transition and push the ball more. Should be starting due to hus two way game.

KCP: Defense but he shouldn’t be getting more than 30 mins a night. he will be gone this summer its time for development. Long as we keep playing these old players we will never give our young players (russell or even randle) time to show what they truly are instead of forcing them to be something thwy are not.

Ball: Everyone knew ball has no half court game which is why a run and gun offense would work better instead of ball dumping the ball to lopez wvery time. He is legit as tbhey come but look at nash, jkid all these guys had teams tailored to them.... the game is not even fun when you are playing next to nance and lopez they clearly cant hold their own.

6th man: Love his offense, needs to shoot more 3s and distribute more.

Luke: what a mess. Terrible coach.

Did not anyone else hear this interview? Like I said I was in the other room but it was definitely Magic and a female interviewer. They started talking about our shooting, and Magic made a comment that we were last in the league in 3pt shots and so the shooting woes are not just Lonzo.

Then like a minute later, Magic said something about bringing someone in to help with this, mentioned Luke didn't think we needed one but that he won't have a choice this time.

I can't say I heard "shooting coach", I was just putting 2 and 2 together. Cmon, someone must have heard this interview.

I'm pretty sure they know something, that's why they don't mind trading assets to clear cap, unless they wanna look like idiots.

Mason & Ireland had someone (can't remember his name at the moment) but basically had "hollywood" sources aka Maverick Carter, who believed LeBron was coming to Lakers 99% a few months ago, is now saying it's almost doubtful now that LeBron comes due to all the recent failings this team is going through. So take that for what you will.

So if Lakers fail to recruit their 2 max free agents plan because they were turned away from our losing record, will the FO fire Luke?

Having gone to high school with Luke and knowing him a little bit, etc he never really had NBA gear on or talked about the NBA a ton, but when he did it was normally the Lakers. He loved basketball but didn’t really obsess over the NBA in terms of talking about it all the time.

These always do need to be taken with a grain of salt and things tend to flip flop a lot with these things but...yikes!

So because we're 5-10 games worse on the season record, LeBron's interest in his kids/wife growing up in LA? His interest in Hollywood post-career is gone? The ability to come with another star or 2 is irrelevant?

I think LeBron is smart enough to know he makes any team a 50 win team

Thanks for sharing. Had no idea that Luke would wear Lakers gear since he was a Celtics fan even back in his St. Vincent days. When Larry Bird used to visit Bill, he'd read bedtime stories to the 3 Walton brothers when they were little. Luke had this a VHS tape of Larry and kept working on his game to mimic his moves and passing. Luke said his interest in the Celtics was gone after what happened in 2008.

That’s fine, he does make the lakers a 50 win team but is he a true championship contender with the current roster?

The lack of progress is concerning imo. He would be basically coming here because off the court stuff is his primary discriminator in the decision process. Just like PG’s would be to be credited with the “re-birth” of the lakers post kobe.

Players have different motives and right now no player can say they are coming to the lakers to win. Obviously that can change by next summer, but we are missing the critical part right now - Progress/Showing the potential.

I was all aboard for hiring Luke. He was actually my first choice. But the train is coming to a stop and I think I want to get off. I see what Brad Stevens does with little talent and just wonder what he'd do with our team. I'm keeping my eye on Shaka Smart cause it always seemed like him and Brad Stevens were cut from the same cloth.
