I looked these up in response to someone saying Nance should be the starting center next season in the Nance thread but since the numbers are relevant and interesting to this thread given the current conversation... here is how the Lakers centers have fared. This is only during their time at center.

Randle: 60% win percentage, +4.6 PER
Bogut: 53% win percentage, -10.3 PER
Nance: 12% win percentage, -5 PER
Lopez: 45% win percentage, -1.7 PER

Randle has been surprisingly good as a small ball center this season.

Wow. Great stats.

Lakers, IMO are infatuated with big sized traditional centers. It's just in their pedigree and will require a monumental philosophical shift.

That would show management coming off as pretty damn stupid

Right. Especially if their plan is to get two maxes and keep Randle. They'd need him to be willing to stay with his $12M cap hold instead of signing the soonest available cap sheet.

But if I'm Julius at this point, there's 0% I trust the Lakers to act in my best interest. I sign the best offer I can get, and if I'm not on the Lakers, so be it. Which is really too bad. I'm infatuated with the idea of a defensive lineup of
Ball/ George/ Ingram/ James/ Randle, even if offensively they'll have some problems unless Ingram and especially Ball shoot better.

I think if the team is willing to and carves out enough space for his cap hold, Randle isn't going to have much control over where he goes this summer, no? It's historically pretty rare for another team to tie up their cap space early on in free agency with an RFA because of the waiting period to see if the current team matches or not - I wouldn't think it'd be any different this year with Julius. Plus, can't teams negotiate with UFA before the moratorium is lifted ("unofficially"), but can't sign RFA to an offer sheet until after? Realistically, we could finish our business with any free agents we're pursuing before it even comes time to match offers on Julius.

Teams can negotiate with RFAs now during the moratorium but not UFAs. If Randle truly doesnít want to be here he signs a 2 year contract and walks when he is 25.

Lakers would be foolish to get rid of this guy. He is the future at center.

Donít make that mistake FO.

Hm. Is he ok today in the first half?
Doesn't seem to be switching.
I wonder if that's the game plan though.

That dunk on Embiid was beautiful.

Also clutch defense on him at the end of the game. The steal, and the two stops. That final stop was extremely vital as it lead to Lonzo getting out on transition and thus setting up the Ingram 3 to win the game. He scored 8 points in the 4th as well.

That + the Defense. Great game from him tonight. Had that turnover at the end, but then he came back and stopped Embiid on the defensive end. That's what I like to see.

Randle came up big offensively and defensively at the end of the game. He brought the toughness and fire the Lakers needed.

Can't say enough about him. He gives up 5 inches and who knows how much in the back seat to Embiid but he battled, and basically played him to a draw in their time. Which is really saying something. Agreed with everyone, gotta keep him.

Randle is great when he doesn't dribble the ball. I mean that very literally. Good game by him though

More and more people are going to start looking at Luke and asking him why Randle isn't starting. The Lakers beat reporters are already doing it and soon the national reporters will start too.

The perception of what Randle was is slowly starting to get chipped away this season. Like a few of us predicted Julius has taken a big leap this year and I still expect him to improve even more as the season goes on.

You're over exaggerating.

It's like when people kept insisting that Randle was terrible at leading fast breaks even though he's consistently been more effective at it than the rest of the team.

Randle has the occasional bad turnover while dribbling just like every other player on the Lakers.

Randle's got a lot of DOG in him. A dog that sometimes turns his mind off, but a dog nonetheless. Loved his toughness at the end tonight.
