Not every executive and scout had Ball ranked first or second leading up to June’s draft. I’ve talked to a handful that had him in the nos. 5-8 range. They’re looking smart now. I have to admit, I’m questioning myself for even ranking him third overall behind Markelle Fultz and Jayson Tatum.

Obviously his shot is off right now (understatement of the year, yes), but this is a ridiculously unfair assessment which doesn't at all account for Lonzo's other contributions, as compared to his peers. But yeah, let's all pretend that everybody's pre-draft darlings DSJ, Jackson, and Fox are lighting the NBA on fire with their trash ass shooting (almost as bad as Lonzo's, actually, which NOBODY mentions - all barely 40% FG/30% 3-PT or below), without the same impact in other areas as Lonzo does to compensate.

I actively avoid Kevin O'Connor articles that have anything to do with the Lakers.

Hope ZO comes out aggressive tonight. Focus on rebounding and take it from there.

Chances of Lebron tweeting about tonight’s game are pretty high #calculated

I just hope he doesn't embarrass himself again, and plays with some fire.

Let me help y'all out:

Randle doesn't make fiscal sense for the Lakers unless they abandon the 2-max-players-not-currently-on-the-team plan.

The 2-max plan is the correct strategy to pursue because it is the quickest way to assemble a championship roster. It may not work (might not get the 2 guys you want to sign, might sign them but not win it all, etc.), but if it is an option you have to explore it until it is no longer an option. Example: Jerry West & Shaq signing - West had ample reasons to break off the Shaq pursuit (couldn't match the money in Orlando, etc.), but went all in and when the Magic stumbled, the Lakers were the last team standing.

Why does Randle not make fiscal sense? Am I missing something?

If Randle ends up getting 10-15 mill/yr, he’ll be a Laker. The Lakers can afford a 13 million dollar Randle, yes, even with George and James:

65 mill - (George and James)
20 mill - (Ingram, Ball, Nance, Hart, Caruso, Bryant, Thomas, Kuzma, Wear)
13 mill - (Randle caphold)
100 mill (approx.)

Four years, fifty million is good value for Randle. Very fiscally sensical, IMO.

Your plan depends on trading Deng and Clarkson for expiring contracts while including nothing more than draft picks. That's possible, but it's more likely we'd need to stretch him at a cost of $7.2 million a year. Under that scenario, keeping Randle seems impossible.

Also, your plan depends on Randle not signing an offer sheet for an higher amount. Again that's possible, but it's also possible for Cuban or some other owner coming in with a higher offer to force our hand.

So, yeah, what you're posing could happen, but it's the wet dream "I can't believe everything worked out our way so amazingly perfect" scenario.

This is one of those games that will be vey indicative of where his head is it..

preseason ROY favorites-- Simmons and Ball
had a terrible game against Philly once
in a 'passive slump'
lost a few in a row
his dad has been out there talking

Lonza better step up

The crowd is going to be brutal. I've been really dreading this game.

I was at the game in philly last year and there were a ton of Laker fans - we should be okay.

We get off to crappy starts, IMO...because Lopez is in there. Our game plan, every game, is to feed it to him in the post or run pick and pops with him at the start...he bricks all of those shots and we are down 16-6. Nance has been bricking early too.

If we could this aggressive Lonzo for most of the games; I would be perfectly happy with his rookie year. He’s attacking really well tonight.

He's capable of comfortably playing faster than everyone else when he's right. That first half is one of the first times he's really applied that in the NBA.

A few weeks ago he said his ankle was still not 100%. Now the calves. He really needs his full speed to be effective at this point

Great game Zo!! I thought he lost his man few too many times on defense, but when your rookie point is putting up 10/8/8/4/3 with 0 turnovers... how much can you complain?
