Quote: | Brook Lopez had car service evacuate his cat from LA fires
Brook Lopez is one heck of a pet owner.
Lopez lives in Bel Air Crest, a gated community in the hills of Los Angeles. His home was near the “Skirball Fire” — one of many Southern California fires this week — which broke out on Wednesday morning.
The Lakers big man used a car service to be dropped off at the team facility prior to the Lakers’ road trip to Philadelphia for Thursday’s game against the 76ers. But he didn’t leave his cat behind.
Instead, Lopez took his cat with him, then had the car service drive four hours to Fresno to drop his cat off at his mother’s home.

Brook Lopez’s neighborhood got evacuated because of the fires so he took his cat, Poupin, to the airport with him. Once there he asked the car service to continue onto Fresno, a 4 hour drive away, to drop Poupin off at his mom’s house.

“He got there safely, he got to my mom’s house,” Lopez said Friday, via the Los Angeles Times’ Tania Ganguli. “It was a bad day for him because he probably didn’t know what was going on, why he was in the carrier, then he had to go to the vet when he was in Fresno right away to get shots.”
Lopez’s area eventually was evacuated because of the fires. As far as he knows, his home is fine. Still, that’s a scary situation for someone who wasn’t around with the fires going on. And that’s a heck of an effort he made to protect his beloved feline. |

They don't live in the same world as the rest of us. This does not even seem outlandishly profligate to him. Poupin? Come on. |

cats are a lot more chill and practical than dogs, plus if you live in an apartment or something it's basically inhumane to have a dog _________________ one dog goes that way the other dog goes the other way |

if you have a huge yard or live right next to a dog park, then yes dogs are pretty awesome
I don't have an objective preference for one over the other - it's all contextual _________________ one dog goes that way the other dog goes the other way |

I actually think it was a solid solution given the circumstances. No way I am leaving my pet if I really think they may be in danger while I was gone. |

no you're wrong it was outlandishly profligate - he should have just let the cat to burn alive as opposed to spending literally 5 minutes of game time worth of his salary to save him
it was also largely big _________________ one dog goes that way the other dog goes the other way |

I do not live in an apartment....but my YorkiPoo would do just fine in an apartment. She does not even enjoy going outside and getting her paws dirty too often. She prefers sidewalks. |

I am allergic to cats...but a young kitten / cat came with my ex wife....10 years later, the cat had 100% taken with me and went with me upon divorce. The great thing about cats is you can literally go away for a long weekend and not need anyone to check on them....hell the cat is partially happy your gone and they have the house to themselves. |

hell yeah....my daughter had a fish when she was younger....cleaning out that tank was a pain in the ......and that smell of a dirty fish tank definitely competes with a litter box. |

I driver for uber and I have seen all types of crazies, but if I ever got such a request from Mr. Lopez then a hefty tip would be in order |

taking a look at uber's ride estimator (I realize he may not have used uber, but it will still give us an idea) that trip would cost around $300-1500 depending on the level of uber used
let's assume he used the middle option (uber black or equivalent) at 900, plus let's assume he tipped 900 so that the driver could make it back at the same rate
that puts him at 1800 to save his cat
he makes $22,642,350 this year
so he spent 0.007949704% of his salary to save his cat _________________ one dog goes that way the other dog goes the other way |

he is also averaging 22.8 minutes per game so far this year
let's assume that holds for the remainder of the season
he therefore makes $12110.79 per minute played
he therefore spent around 1/7th of a minutes played worth of his salary to save his cat _________________ one dog goes that way the other dog goes the other way |

He's on the Lakers and I thought it was a unique NBA story rather than the usual arrest etc we hear with these players on a daily basis. |

Brook is a good dude. And, yes, money comes with privilege to ferry your cat 400 miles in an Uber. |
