Jason Priestley Reveals He Punched Harvey Weinstein in the Face at a 1995 Miramax Party

Jason Priestley revealed he once punched Harvey Weinstein in the face after the Hollywood mogul allegedly grabbed him at a Miramax party in 1995.

As previously reported, Mira Sorvino retweeted a story on Friday, December 15, reporting that Weinstein and his brother, Bob Weinstein, allegedly orchestrated a smear campaign against Sorvino and Ashley Judd, resulting in the actresses being “’blacklisted” in Hollywood. “Just seeing this after I awoke, I burst out crying. There it is, confirmation that Harvey Weinstein derailed my career, something I suspected but was unsure. Thank you Peter Jackson for being honest. I’m just heartsick,” the Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion star wrote.

Sorvino was responding to director Peter Jackson’s Thursday interview with New Zealand media outlet Stuff, where he said that he was advised by Miramax to avoid hiring Sorvino and Judd for The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Jackson also said, “We had no reason to question what these guys were telling us — but in hindsight, I realize that this was very likely the Miramax smear campaign in full swing. I now suspect we were fed false information about both of these talented women – and as a direct result their names were removed from our casting list.”

Actress Tara Strong responded to Sorvino’s tweet by writing, “Heartbreaking…. wouldn’t be surprised if this happened to my good friend @Jason_Priestley who punched Weinstein in the face at a club one night. Go Jay.”

Weinstein released a statement on Friday, December 15, disputing Jackson’s claims about Sorvino and Judd, saying, “As Mr. Jackson will probably remember, because Disney would not finance the Lord of the Rings, Miramax lost the project and all casting was done by New Line. While Bob and Harvey Weinstein were executive producers of the film, they had no input into the casting whatsoever.”

As previously reported, Weinstein came under fire in October after The New York Times published an exposé detailing more than 30 years of misconduct claims against him. More than 70 women, including Gwyneth Paltrow, Rose McGowan and Angelina Jolie, have accused the former studio head of sexual harassment or assault — all of which he has since denied.

In the wake of the allegations, Weinstein was fired from his own company and expelled by the Television Academy, and his wife of 10 years, Marchesa designer Georgina Chapman, announced she was leaving him. Weinstein checked into a treatment center, but left after one week.

Us Weekly has reached out to Weinstein’s rep for comment.

Quote:
David Eaton resigns as V.P. of NFL Media amid sexual harassment inquiry
David Eaton, who ran the NFL’s in-house newsroom, has resigned amid allegations that the network was rife with sexual harassment and other misconduct.

“Last night David Eaton tendered his resignation from NFL Media effective immediately,” NFL Network spokesman Alex Riethmiller said in a statement.

Eaton, whose title was Vice President and Executive Editor of NFL Media, was recently caught by Deadspin trying to hide his past use of Twitter to contact prostitutes and porn stars.

That came at a terrible time for NFL Media because NFL Network has recently been hit by a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by former NFLN employee Jami Cantor. Multiple NFL Network employees have been suspended as the league investigates.

Separately, reporter Lindsay McCormick said she was asked sexist questions at a job interview when she applied to work at NFL Network. The stories together have painted an ugly picture of the work atmosphere at NFL Media, and now the league needs to find someone to run the network who can change that atmosphere.

It’s not a question of immunity. It’s a question of whether they had a legal duty to act. As a general rule, you have no affirmative duty to intervene. There are a few situations where this changes. In the case of a security guard, it would depend on what they were hired to do.

Aren't they responsible to the primary objective the job entails, Observe and Report?

The primary objective of the job would be to provide security to whoever hired them.

True, observe and report is more a duty.

ESPN ends ties with Donovan McNabb, Eric Davis

ESPN has severed ties with Donovan McNabb and Eric Davis after a month-long investigation into sexual harassment allegations at the NFL Network, an ESPN spokesman confirmed to PFT.

McNabb appeared on the network and co-hosted a weekend NFL show on ESPN Radio. Davis co-hosted an ESPN L.A. Radio show.

On Dec. 12, ESPN suspended the two former NFL players after a lawsuit by a former NFL Network employee named them. Jami Cantor, a wardrobe stylist, accused McNabb of sending inappropriate text messages and Davis of rubbing his body against her and making lewd comments.

The NFL Network suspended former players Marshall Faulk, Ike Taylor and Heath Evans pending an investigation into the allegations made against them by Cantor.

Former NFL Network executive producer Eric Weinberger was suspended by the Bill Simmons Media Group, where Weinberger serves as president.

The Aziz story is not sexual misconduct or assault. It was simply an awkward date. You can't consensually give someone 2 BJs and let him eat you out then later on retroactively take consent away.

Her account of it paints him as pretty aggressive and perhaps she allowed the oral sex to occur to de-escalate from further intercourse.

But that would certainly add to any confusion about "non verbal" cues she claimed to have expressed to him.

There used to be a show called Picket Fences that had a scene where the daughter and another teen were fooling around. The boy asked her for permission for every little thing. It got to the point where the daughter got so exasperated that she just told him to stop asking and just do it. It was so comically awkward but art imitates life.

This "Grace" person has done women who took tremendous personal, emotional, and professional risks for standing up to actual predators like Weinstein and Moore a disservice by mitigating their cause for her failure to communicate.

What’s the point of asking for consent if you can’t prove you asked, and received it?

Maybe we need an app or something, using fingerprint sensor, that can substantiate the consent? I mean, just some way to eliminate confusion.

This has been my concern for awhile. We are treading very dangerously into waters where regrettable sex is being re-imagined as rape or sexual misconduct.

This was inevitable. This movement started threatening to go off the rails a couple months ago, but there were still enough legitimate targets in the news to drown out the more questionable cases.

Personally, I was repelled by the spectacle at the Golden Globes. We had a bunch of rich, elitist, out of touch women from Hollywood patting themselves on the back for standing up to sexual abuse, when that was basically the same group of people who enabled people like Weinstein. There is a long list of women in Hollywood who could have gone public about Weinstein (and others) at any point over the last few decades. They made a business decision to remain silent. When I see that crowd congratulating itself, it makes me angry.

To be fair, I read multiple accounts where the women immediately made noise about it to the people around the industry, but it was all brushed off as "oh that's Harvey". He had a 24 hour machine around him. He hired former Israeli agents to keep them silent. I can see how they felt helpless.

That being said, this Aziz encounter is a nonstory. She obviously wanted it but the chemistry wasn't there. It happens. It seems he did nothing wrong in her side of the story, so the mid-line truth must be even more in favor of him.

Yeah, there was much more going on than women complicity just making a "business decision".
