He shoots the 3 way better than brook! And he is quite mobile. My goodness. Why on earth is he not getting PT?
He is too good for G-league. He needs experience vs real NBA bigs. |
He doesn't provide enough effect for help D + box out/rebounds to compensate for lateral mobility.
Everyone is going to say lateral mobility, but it doesn't stop Lopez, Zubac, or Bogut from getting PT. Lopez can compensate with some defensive presence and play big in the paint. Zubac is spotty. Bogut sets screens. Thomas Bryant... ? |
I remember in a LFR game recap about 2 weeks ago, Lopez was commended for switching and succeeding on one play. And there's just a vet savy about defending in space that he and Bogut have - and like you said Bogut is proven at the rim defending. Lopez is as well, at least solid. Zubac drops too low when guards come off the pick , but he still slides once at 12ft and contests well if he doesn't foul. The above video of Bryant is just egregious. Lopez is more mobile than that, somehow. I hope Bryant has improved past that point, becuase idk if you can play that - and teams didn't know if they could draft that - despite his 3ball, length , and age |
Lopez had plenty of time to develop his strength and lateral quickness. Brook wasn't exactly known as an athlete when he got drafted. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

That and Zubac has seemed to improve some of his quickness as well as his explosivensss. So it shows it can be done. Especially has helped Myles Turner.
I actually would like to see them work on Bryants gate the way the Pacers did with Myles Turner, now IS the time to do it. _________________ How NBA 2K18 failed the All-Time Lakers:

I think that too, it really stands out the way he runs.
He needs to go see Amoila this off-season _________________ How NBA 2K18 failed the All-Time Lakers:

But his lateral agility is a real struggle too. Will make it tough for him to guard on switches. |
Also not a great rebounder which is important. I think DX explained it pretty well.
Quote: | While he had success on the offensive glass, he was more of just an average presence as a defensive rebounder. His timing and instincts on the defensive glass are just fair, and his relatively weak and stiff lower body make it difficult for him to get low and carve out position in box outs. His long reach allows him to make up for some of his deficiencies, but his lack of elite bounce and balance limit his potential as a rebounder |
He could actually learn a few tricks from Bogut who is a decent rebounder without being able to fly around like Randle can. _________________ Austin Reaves keeps his game tight, like Kobe Bryant on game night. |

I think they have been working with Bryant on this issue... During the draft process he said he was working on it . You always seem to think that just because you don't see results - players aren't working on things - like somehow they don't see what obviously needs to be worked on , but you do?
I'm pretty sure he's improving at it, as well. I wish I caught a Defenders game to look for it - but his gate has for sure improved since Indiana just looking at the highlights - and I'm 99% sure his gate and lateral mobility are connected at the hips, if you will. (He can't lift his feet in his first few steps running - can't lift his feet step sliding either)
I'm willing to be patient with this kid.. from where he started , I can imagine it taking 2-3 years to get his lateral mobility to average. But I think he's worth it.. I have to say that it was a spectacular draft, every chance I get - we really made great picks (if Lonzo ends up being able to shoot) |

They correctly tied it back to his stiff lower body. His whole career is dependent on curing that. |

He didn't necessarily guard anyone laterally, but he was moving in a stance and looked quicker for sure. He has improved there - idk to what degree when defending 1v1, but... he's comin along! Future starter if it keeps improving. |

Luke didn't do him any favors by putting him in during a close game in the fourth quarter and with a lineup that also featured Caruso. |

T. Bryant recalled by Lakers for tonights game.
Quote: | In 20 games with South Bay this season, Bryant has averaged 20.3 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.6 blocks in 29.9 minutes per game. Bryant has also shot 60.2% from the field and 40.7% from beyond the arc. |

Kid has absolute fire. He legitimately cares. The jumper is legit. Seems like he's more bouncey than he was is college for sure. Able to explode off the ground faster. His hips still look right though. As someone else pointed out, you can really see it in the way he runs. Seems to be a bit top heavy, but the potential is worth the wait. No Sleights with tenacity and pride is a heck of a good player. Especially for a 4th-5th option offensively. |

Like any pup, he has weaknesses that he can work on. Nobody can deny his outside shot, shot blocking, and tenacity. The lack of lateral movement can be improved. Also, defensively, instead of doing a complete switch on D, let defenders help Bryant out on his man and then go back to their assignments. |

I have high hopes for this kid.
Totally agree with both comments!
