For sure, but maybe we could give Lopez a few of Nance's minutes and minimize how often they need to go to that pairing.
Yeah that's fair.

Right. Besides, Nance hasn't been too shabby at C these past few games imo. In fact, that was actually him protecting the rim in one of those clips that GT mistakenly credited to Lopez I think he's more comfortable coming off the bench, personally.

Haha, yeah that's my bad. Here are the Net Ratings of our big man combos though.

Net Rating

Randle + Lopez.......+16.0 (84 minutes)
Nance + Lopez...........-2.9 (312 minutes)
Kuzma + Randle.........-3.5 (623 minutes)
Kuzma + Lopez..........-5.1 (299 minutes)
Kuzma + Nance........-10.1 (186 minutes)
Nance + Randle........-13.0 (32 minutes...although they were awful together last year too)

Really, if he can just avoid the bottom two pairings I'd be happy, and I don't think that's asking for too much.

But Kuzma+Nance might be worth it if it means you get more Randle+Lopez. That worked out in the Kings game, for example. In fact, judging from these limited numbers, that's definitely the case, though Randle/Lopez will likely drop some from +16.0 with more minutes.

Keep an eye on the game tonight. Aldridge and Gasol should give us more information about how these pairings might work out.

Agreed. A large percent of Randle/Lopez minutes were played against trash (aka the Kings & Hawks). +16 is noisy, but even if it's +4 that's still a good deal better than the rest.

And Lopez/Randle the other way

Must be frustrating for Luke to deal with this front court rotation...

Haha, that swung about as wildly as it can swing in one game at this point in the season. Now...

Randle/Lopez..........+5.7 (101 minutes)
Kuzma/Nance..........-3.5 (215 minutes)

Although I will say, it's Lonzo that's making that Kuzma/Nance pairing work.

Lonzo/Kuzma/Nance.............-0.1 (122 minutes)

Although the Spurs did a solid job of containing the Lakers from breaking loose with the pace for a fair amount of the game, I think doing so took a toll on Gasol and LMA (who looks a little chubby, by the way) and so Larry's high activity was a perfect matchup to grab, tip and keep alive a lot of rebounds. Kuz and the rest of the team followed suit, chipping in with that too. It's all about matchups. Hopefully, Luke pulls the right strings.

^ looking at a lot of those Lonzo plays and just shaking my head. His passing feel is just brilliant, dream perfect in many instances. Nance isn't open to most passers when he threw that transition oop. The one handed passback to KCP; the countless tip-outs including the defensive deflection that led to a shot clock violation on SAS

You know what's funny, and I'll revel in it as a millennial -- Lonzo was bred this way by the AAU game - where you can play loose and not worry because you have 500 games a summer -- where the game is mostly offensive and you can make loose, fun plays consistently -- reminds me of Euro players who come over. That certain pizzazz they play with.
I'm convinced now that Amateur Euro Ball is just unselfish AAU ball. .. Lonzo's team!

Surprised KCP didn't make it to your video breakdown. He was the catalyst in that 3rd quarter as the Spurs made a run and grabbed the lead.

Luke isn't perfect but I have to laugh when I see people call for his firing. This video shows guys cutting to the basket, moving without the ball etc.. they're playing organized, they're playing Defense, two things we didn't see in the Byron years.

Very cool. Kind of shows how your defense doesn't really have much to do with Play Type frequency.

I think the 20-20 prediction is doable but Lonzo is gonna need to play at least 35 of the games for that to happen IMO and idk if that’s likely given how conservative they’ve been with him. Yesterday was just more proof that this team has no chance without him no matter who they play.

Yeah, like I said...he's the one that they can't live without. My optimistic prediction was completely tied to Lonzo playing.
