Jevon Carter or Tyler Ennis or overpaying for a decrepit vet?

I'll take Carter.

I'd be happy with a Caruso vs Carter battle for the backup 1 spot next year.

"Let them fight!"

Summer League would be so lit (though I assume they would shut down Lonzo after one game, if he even showed up at all) with the Pope and Carter swarming everybody on defense.

Anyway, random thought: I'm hoping that towards the end of this season we see Caruso get a few minutes alongside Lonzo and that if they draft Carter (or another backup PG type - Graham, Holiday, etc.) that he would get some in-season burn next to Lonzo, as well. I think it might help rookie guards gain more confidence and feel for the offense than just being Lonzo's understudy.

Leaning towards Bagley not being an elite prospect, 8-10 for me, shooting is vital.
Also not sure if Bamba will ever develop the jumper(the length of his arms may be a factor idk)
Doncic
Ayton
Trae
Porter - could end up being the best in the class
Sexton/Bamba (sounds like a Spanish party song from 1999)

I still have to go with Young #2 - guys with his potential to be efficient, high volume, three level scorers are so valuable, and he's doing it a level that arguably dwarfs everyone in recent memory as a freshman including DLo, Fultz, and Kyrie's 8-game sample while also showing better passing instincts and vision than any of those three at the same age.

I like Ayton, but Embiid and Davis were clearly better big man prospects coming out of college because of elite defensive metrics to go with the burgeoning offensive skill, and even with a Davis, Embiid, KAT, whoever, your team still needs that star primary initiator first to even contemplate having a future championship core (for example, he Sixers need Fultz to get it together or Simmons to develop a jumper to maximize Embiid's impact).

So there are two potential star level primary initiators in this draft: Doncic and Young (and maybe Sexton or Porter get there). I think you go there before thinking of one-way bigs like Bagley and Bamba or even a freakish potential two-way big with shaky defensive awareness in Ayton.

Otherwise I agree wholeheartedly with your list And I'm still left wondering if there isn't some sneaky star upside to potential elite 3&D guys like Jaren Jackson and Mikal Bridges. Man, the 2017/18 drafts are going to be the backbone of some great NBA basketball in the 2020s.

Carter would beat the brakes off Caruso....he would take that kids ball, his shoes, and the car he drove to the court.

I'd like to see it. Caruso is good. If we get Carter and he's that much better than Caruso then that's great for us.

NBC Sports College Basketball Midseason Awards

Quote:
MIDSEASON ALL-AMERICAN - FIRST TEAM

JEVON CARTER, West Virginia: Carter is the nation’s best on-ball defender playing in a system that needs all the on-ball defenders that Bobby Huggins can scrounge up. He’s also averaging 16.7 points, 6.9 assists, 5.7 boards and 3.7 steals for a team that is currently sitting in the top five of the AP poll. He has been absolutely superb.

West Virginia G Jevon Carter named to Wooden Award watch list

Quote:
No. 2 West Virginia is currently the hottest team in college basketball and senior guard Jevon Carter is a big reason why. As a result of what’s shaping up to be a career season for Carter, the Wooden Award midseason watch list was announced on Thursday and Carter was one of four Big 12 talents recognized.

I am pretty sure I will never be able to be objective in regards to Jevon....he has easily been one of my 4 or 5 favorite WVU players from my 3+ decades of being a die hard fan....easily my favorite since Da'Sean Butler from the 2010 Final Four team.

This is completely wrong, but I can't help but look at Jontay Porter and think, "no way that guy's brother is a total black hole in the pros."

If he’s truly a 3 and D player at the PG spot, he would be a good get.

he is starting to have a turnover issue...needs to clean that up....hit some monster shots late in game....I am willing to say I have never seen anyone hit the shots he hits outside of NBA Curry.....the guy will pull the trigger from 32 feet, and splash!

If the Lakers can win a few more games I'm really going to sit down and study this draft. I watched a bit when the season started and I'm not super impressed outside of a few players.

You've undoubtedly read it, but for those who haven't, here's a nice breakdown of Hutchinson's game from The Stepien: Link.

Spoiler alert: they really like his ability to attack closeouts.

Basically I found out about him as a prospect to watch. I watched just a couple games. THEN I read about his scouting report and advanced numbers. Sold.

What did it for me was the half-court athleticism. I thought he had shooting potential (and then he blew up for a 7-10 3pt arc game). He actually resembled a 90s wing player. Ball-pounding from the get-go, but at least he understands how to create shots for others. I put a lot of stock in that assist rate and halfcourt athleticism. And now, it's too late.

I do think the lack of exceptional athleticism will cause some FO's to hesitate. I mean when you walk though your "How could this guy fail" scenarios.....that's his biggest flaw, right?
