Keith Jackson passed away at the age of 89.
He was always my favorite college football announcer, especially when he would call The Rose Bowl.
RIP Mr. Jackson, you were a class act.... _________________ Love, Laker Lanny |

I remember he showed up to watch the Penn State vs USC Rose Bowl game last year. Probably one of his final public appearances. |

Yep. He was THE voice I associate with watching big time college football in my youth.
Another quality, definitive and integral part of sports broadcasting has moved on.
Sadly, due to the saturation of sports broadcasting that we see these days, there will never be another Keith Jackson or Dick Enberg again. We're stuck with wannabes like Joe Buck who are more concerned with being THE broadcast rather than simply presenting the event. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

He would certainly be on the Mount Rushmore of college football play-by-play announcers. Perhaps football announcers of any kind, even including the NFL. He had that likeable grandfatherly way about him that was Verne Lundquist's calling card...but he was so much better than Verne at football. (And I mean no disrespect to Mr. Lundquist, who certainly had a remarkable career, as he was at the mic for many memorable calls in not only college football, but college basketball and golf as well.)
RIP, Mr. Jackson. |
