Trade JR & Deng to Dallas for Devin Harris & Josh McRoberts.

JR goes home, leads new Mavs era as featured player.

Lakers renounce rights to McBob, Harris, Brewer, Lopez, KCP.

Lakers trade JC for #2 pick.

Lakers have Ball, Bryant, Zu, Kuz, Hart, Nance, Ennis & Ingram at an affordable $23.5 million. Add minimum cap hold for 4 spots @900K and that puts LA at $27 million in salary and $74 million in cap space.

Nance
Bryant
Ennis

You need a C/PF and will have $8 million to play with (unless of course, Zu or Bryant turn into actual players, in which case the 8 mil is there to polish the roster). If you roll with 15, you're looking at $5 million to find that big . . . unless you roll with Kuz or LBJ as the smallball C.

Why for Dallas? Why not just wait and give an offer sheet? And not deal with Deng? Or do you think that the rest of the league is trying to help the Lakers out?

Unless Dallas has a "wink/nod" deal with Randle in place (which is possible), they run the risk of 1) the Lakers matching (which they'd likely do if the team doesn't get 2 of LBJ/PG13/DJ/KD), or 2) having JR sign with the Hawks, Bulls or Pacers. While Indiana might not be attractive from a lifestyle POV, being Oladipo's running mate and a legit #2 option on a playoff team has appeal. Atlanta & Chicago are destination cities, regardless of the fortunes of the club.

For Dallas, Deng is mitigated by the fact that unless THEY sign LBJ/PG13, they will be in the lotto the next season or so, as well, so they can hold on until he becomes an attractive expiring deal.

Didn't you hear, Lakers gave up on trading Deng since no one is interested. I'm sure they have already reached out to teams about tagging Randle to it but that hasn't worked. No one is taking Deng.

With your specific trade, if Mavericks wanted Randle, they might extend him an offer on first day of free agency putting Lakers on the clock. Lakers probably would have to waive him in this scenario since Lebron has historically taken his time in free agency.

True - but according to what I've read, Mavs top offseason priorities are Boogie, Aaron Gordon & Jabari Parker (if healthy), with Randle coming in after that. They're not going to blitz Randle with a 12:01 a.m. offer if Gordon (RFA) & Parker (RFA) are bigger targets.

However, if they acquire Randle in a trade, they can check the PF box and make the hard press for Boogie.

Except Mavs won't be able to make any free agent moves to chase Boogie, Aaron Gordon & Jabari Parker if they take on Deng's contract.
