Currently we have two young reserve Centers on the roster, and neither have received any material playing time this season outside of the G League. Both Zubac and Bryant have non-guaranteed contracts in the 2018-19 season. Both players will be 21 years old next season. Going forward, should we keep Zubac, Bryant, neither or both for the 2018-19 season?
2018-19 Salary - Ivica Zubac - $1,544,951 - guarantees on 06/30/2018
2018-19 Salary - Thomas Bryant - $1,378,242 - guarantees on 07/05/2018 |

Unfortunately for my Croatian buddy I am going with Bryant. Why?
Zubac is just too slow for this system Luke is trying to implement. Also we are switching everything. He is not the guy for that kind of defense. Also cant shoot the ball from 3pt line. Bryant is more athletic and faster.
Also think they will not see the floor in years to come. Probably both are gone quite soon. |

If I had to choose, I would select Bryant. I am not sure there is value in keeping both on the roster past this season, and Zubac showed poorly in Summer League and the limited minutes he has played this season.
Hopefully both of them will get some real minutes in the 2nd half of the season to demonstrate their value on the court. If we complete our roster, and have an open roster spot....I am not opposed to keeping both on the roster, but it seems likely that the team would be better served with a different type of player taking a roster spot (shooter, perimeter defender, etc.). I would not be surprised if neither guarantee is picked up to create cap space, then try to bring one back using a minimum contract exception. |

Zu simply due to the speed it looks like we are being built to play at and of course Bryants range as well.
I'd look to move Zu to a team like the Griz...great back up for gasol and they play a game better suited to to Zu at least offesnively... |

I voted for both. Bryant for obvious reasons - love his potential. He needs to start getting mimutes with the varsity right now. But I can't give up on Zu. Not yet anyway. Most bigs usually take a few years to develop (unless your name is Shaq). I think he can still be a player. It just may take a bit longer for him to adjust to the speed of the "small ball" era.
They both can fill a role and both are extremely cheap to retain. We'll see what Maginka does with them soon enough... |

some have speculated they would move Gasol because they even desire to transition into a more up tempo team.....just not many roster spots in the league for the traditional 7' plodder....a roster usually can use one at most. |

Both are projects with NBA potential, but we still don't know who (if any) will actually become a good player. It doesn't hurt having both and develop them. We don't have to make this choice now.
The problem is the playing time Luke is giving them, which prevents them from developing and doesn't give us a real perspective of how good/bad they really are. Both could be playing 8-10 minutes every now and then. _________________ .... |

I think both kids will fill the C spot in 2018-19 if we don't get
D. Cousins. _________________ Lakers need to build a freaking team ! |

Sign Boog and trade him for Jimmy Butler at the next trade deadline when he tells the Wolves he likes big cities and being in movies with Mark Wallberg. Bryant takes over as the 3pt sniper Center (hopefully he can move laterally by then) |

unless they significantly improve....that would not likely be good for us. |

Isn't that Lopez?
In all seriousness, I have not seen enough from either to think they are ready to make the jump to a meaningful impact player. Both look slow and confused. not ready for anything more then mop up duty in a blow out.
They both would need massive improvement before I am relying on either to have a substantial role next year. Hopefully one or both prove me wrong. |

yeah, I meant I'll go with T.Bryant but you're right, they're at best a bench player at this point but wouldn't mind seeing either one in game time just to see where they are |

I agree with you. From the limited G-League highlights I at least see some hopeful potential with Bryant.
But the very limited time either has seen any NBA time has not looked good to my eyes. Neither has stood out in a good way. In all fairness, hard to judge the extremely limited and chaotic end of game mpg for either. |

Wow Zubac has really improved his foot quickness on defense. He just had a possession where he was moving his feet like a 6'11 guy |

That's like asking whether I'd rather eat a lean cuisine that's been collecting freezer burn for months or a leftover burrito bowl from chipotle that I forgot about and that is half covered in mold. _________________ one dog goes that way the other dog goes the other way |

If Luke is your coach, might as well get rid of them. Luke's looking for has beens over 30, who can do a nice pass or two, Australian accent preferred. |

Neither. Let them both go and actually have a shot at improving and getting some PT elsewhere. |

I thought we hit on Zubac at the draft and liked the pick and loved how he played in his rookie year. Boy, has it been downhill since. He looks like an absolute stiff out there. |

Hard when you don't get any playtime whatsoever. He shows improvements in practice where he outplays the other bigs and he and bryant both dominate in G-League. But he's not getting any playtime whatsoever.
Maybe if we trade Lopez at the trade deadline Zubac will finally get some mins. _________________ How NBA 2K18 failed the All-Time Lakers:

You could be right. But, like MJST said, tough call to make when he gets minutes so sporadically. |
