In days past, some here were saying that we should
play Deng but there are just no minutes for him. Just
a thought but IF probably we are looking at maybe 1 Star FA or
no Star FA (again); then maybe we should be sitting Brewer or
trying to get a future second rounder for him; hey he's gone anyway
at the end of the season. I'm don't think Deng is worst than Brewer
at this stage.
We may very well decide to hang onto Deng (and not stretch him) until
it is totally necessary, so lets play him and find a small return for Brewer
from a contender that needs a backup.
At the ned of the day it's not a big play one way or the other, so
whatever.. |
The trouble with that is you need to trade Brewer at the deadline, and the Lakers probably won't know what will really happen with free agents until the offseason. So I don't see them giving up 8 million in cap space for a second round pick |
raptors has 2 trade exceptions totaling 19M, but do they need brewer? |
The luxury tax line this season is at $119,266,000.
20. Other than financial penalties, are there restrictions on taxpaying teams? What is the "Apron?" What is the hard cap?

In addition to the tax payments described in question number 18, taxpaying teams have the following restrictions:
Taxpaying teams do not receive a distribution from the league wide tax fund. However, they remain eligible to receive a distribution from the escrow fund (see question number 19) and from revenue sharing (see question number 21).
Taxpaying teams can acquire less salary in a simultaneous trade (see question number 86).
|
Having to paying luxury tax and being able to collect from the tax fund could mean a financial swing of several million dollars.
Toronto Raptors Team Salary has the Raptors at $117,429,381 in salary. If they traded for Brewer and absorbed him into a trade exception, they would become a taxpayer.
Use the navigation drop down on the right side of the web page to examine the salaries for other teams. There are several teams that are close to, but not over the $119,266,000 tax line. |

Agreed. He's still negative value, and would still require assets to unload.
That said, he could be useful to pair with a young player's salary to get a vet in the 2019 season. Anthony Davis is my personal favorite target. But that young player would have to be very compelling on his own. |

Net is that Deng would be able to be traded in 2019 with a huge penalty for a matching contract. Best case you get a better fit for the team.
Saw something the other day the suggested a Deng for Batum who is owed an extra year. Batum would be useful and maybe we need to through in a young prospect like Zubac, Bryant or even Nance to make it work. I would rather have Batum than Deng even if there was an additional year. At least he could be a rotation player. |
