FYI: Knicks may go after Kentavious Caldwell-Pope this summer, while Willy Hernangomez garnering trade interest from teams
Quote: | As the Knicks plot out their future during this downtrending season, a particular mold of player remains a priority for the front office, according to sources: an athletic wing.
One of that ilk who has piqued New York’s interest is Lakers forward Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who will be an unrestricted free agent in the summer. Caldwell-Pope certainly fits the ideal at just 24 years old with potential as an elite perimeter defender. |

KCP is terrible. He needs to be relegated to ~14min/game. If Luke can do that to Lopez and Randle, he can do it to the chronic underachieving drunk driving parole violating KCP. Josh Hart is the better player right now, and he will be a key piece for this team for years. Hart needs to take most of KCP's minutes, he has earned them and KCP has lost them. |

If you look at his numbers, it's right in line with his career, except he's dropped 6% in FT% this year. But I suspect the drop in FT% is for comradery, so he can fit in with his Laker teammates. |

How’s KCP’s clutch numbers like compared to last year? Did it drop? Did he even have any? He’s been getting so many drawn up plays in the clutch this season. _________________ |

That must've been stipulated in the one-year golden contract Maginka drew up with Rich Paul last summer. |

I’m hoping they can somehow move him at the deadline. I’d rather see Hart getting 35mpg. |

Me too. I hate his offensive game but his defense is what drives me crazy. Sometimes he is quite good but sometimes he is showing zero effort on D. And by his reputation he is supposed to be our best defender. |

He has about 1-2 good games out of every 10.
A competent coach would bring him off the bench instead of starting him.... _________________ Kobe |

KCP's been playing OK, but those 2 choked free throws were ugly like they weren't even close.
Hopefully it doesn't lead into a Nick Anderson effect since he's one of our only players who shoots free throws at an average level. |

Have to agree Doc. Hart is actually a more consistent player as a rookie, almost hard to believe. |

Could KCP net us a first round pick at the deadline??
Hart can fill in for him the rest of the way and JC could also pick up the extra minutes. |

Nobody will trade a 1st rounder for 2 months of KCP. |

Didn't we have to waive Nwaba because this dude didn't want to take 800k less? |

He's paid like a star when he's a quality role player. Frustrating for sure. |

It would be frustrating if he had a long term contract, since it's one year, who cares if he's overpaid ? In out recent good stretch of games (7-2), he's averaging 9 shots / game, doesn't try to do too much, playing solid defense. What can you ask more for a one year rental ? |

I agree that I usually don't care about how much the 1 year rental's are getting paid. But it seems like with that contract has come a few things that we do care about:
1. He's getting more clutch opportunity than I'd care for. We should be giving those all to our young players and not a 1 year rental.
2. Though he's solid, there's times he's not, and would like to see those minutes be distributed to others like Hart. But feels like because he's being paid to like a veteran star for this team, he's getting minutes to match taking away opportunity from the youth.
3. Somebody noted we lost Nwaba in the process, another prospect. |

1. You're assuming that his salary is influencing how Luke uses him. But since Luke's been coach, I've seen no indication that he tends to play guys based on their salaries.
2. Nwaba doesn't look like anything special at this point. |

On defense he has great anticipation for jumping into passing lanes and getting the steal. He is one of the best in the league at that.
His on ball defense is not good though, I have been very disappointed in that as I thought he was supposed to be a lock down defender and hie isn't. Lonzo is a far better defender on the ball as is Hart. _________________ Love, Laker Lanny |

If what Laker Lanny said is true:
Quote: | n defense he has great anticipation for jumping into passing lanes and getting the steal. He is one of the best in the league at that.

Then it would be foolish to sign KCP at his present salary next year. Especially if Lonzo and Hart can play better defense.
His offense is very inconsistent.
Was hoping that KCP and Lopez would be better than they are.
Especially at highest salary prices.
Good part is will open a 2 max possibility if stretch Deng.
And can keep Clarkson and Randle at more reasonable salary.
Next off season will be pivotal for the Lakers. |
