PostPosted: Thu Feb 08, 2018 6:41 pm    Post subject: OFFICIAL 2018-19 CAP NUMBER

These numbers assume a $101 mill cap.

( I totally get that we have an official free agency thread, but if you put in a post like this it ends up in the middle of 1000 pages. This thread is about, and only about, our Cap number for this summer under various scenarios, merge if you must )

Assumptions:
-The Cap and Tax Line go up 3% a year after this Summer, seems conservative.
-Bron retires/leaves at 36. ( I know, but look at how the tax explodes if we keep him )
-BI gets the max at the end of his Rookie deal, Zo and Kuz get 80% of the max, or 20% of the cap. Hart signs startingat $15 mill after his Rookie deal
-We sign JR to around $14 mill and then standard increases.
-We only keep one of Zu TB.

+ this scenario now assumes we have to trade the CLE pick to move Deng

Max Salaries
0-6 years 25% of cap=$25.25 mill
7-9 years 30% of cap=$30.30 mill
10+ years 35% of cap=$35.35 mill

Summer, 2018 years of service for some free agents:
PG13 8 years of service
Boogie 9 years of service
Bron 10+ years of service

Please check my figures.

Redoing with 1st round pick.

Updated incomplete roster hold to $850k

Note: I get the argument that some are making, once we sign one or two max guys the incomplete roster holds drop by those guys. I have just concluded it is easier to do that adjustment in your head, rather than changing the assumptions that we have to count the holds until the moment the signing occurs. Could change this approach later, let's see. It does not impact the numbers much either way.

Excuse my ignorance but lets say we renounced all besides Julius and stretch Deng. Are we able to sign both PG & Lebron and go over the cap to sign Julius?

One of the nuisances is that as you sign a FA, that hold disappears.

So in reality, it creates a bit more space.

That is the $59 mill scenario, which will be $58 once i add in the 1st round pick.

So, just under 2 $30 mill slots

Lebron can receive more than a traditional 10 year vet max

this is my understanding:
if we want to pay lebron 35m and pg 30m, i think jr has to be renounced.
now if we can trade deng away and save some of the 7m stretch cost, then jr does not have to be renounced.

That's splitting $59m between the two when they are up for $30m (George) and $35m (James) if I remember correctly. A $3m cut each? I don't know. Stranger things have happened.

Maybe we can make a trade to create more cap space?

Something like Deng, Zu, and a 2nd to Atlanta for Plumlee and then stretch him.

That would save a couple million dollars.

It’s a little more than $59m because the moment you sign PG13 another 500k gets created.

I also wouldn’t assume Randle gets a deal starting at above his caphold.

Lakers could offer 4/50 and create another 1.5m this year.

Someone please work out a deal where LBJ and PG get paid with no/minimal paycuts while Keeping Randle, Ingram, Kuzma, and Ball.

Seems to be a roster with a lot of ring chasers, but I'm not a salary cap guru.

i think we sign the FAs first before signing JR.
this way only the cap hold counts.
then we can go above the cap to resign him.

you dont want hart?
no paycut for lbj and pg, it requires trading deng and getting rid of most of his cap impact.

Tough sell. I feel like we are keeping our picks, and we'll just stretch Deng.

Or you might say 70M for Randle and two FAs.

The market is not friendly for RFAs this years, and I doubt Randle gets 12M. If he resigns for, say, 10M, that's 60 for LBJ& PG.

Using emplay's idea of extension-then-stretch with Deng, a few millions more could be squeezed.

There is only one chance to hit a homerun though. LBJ& PG, or nothing.

Keeping Randle will be tough if we get 2 max FAs. Mavs will offer a good deal imo.

The minimum salary for the incomplete roster charge is too low.

22. What is the minimum salary a player can receive?

For the current season:

Quote:

$815,615

Quote:

The minimum salary scale amounts for the 2017-18 season were negotiated into the agreement. For each subsequent season the minimum salary scale amounts are determined by applying the percentage change in the salary cap to the previous minimum salary scale amounts. For example, if the salary cap increases by 4% from 2017-18 to 2018-19, then all minimum salary scale amounts also will increase by 4% from 2017-18 to 2018-19.

These are the numbers and calculations that I used to determine the percentage change from the current salary cap to $101 million for next season.

$101,000,000 - $99,093,000 = $1,907,000

1.9245% change from $99,093,000 to $101,000,000

Then apply that 1.9245% increase to the current minimum salary of $815,615.

I came up with $831,311 for a minimum salary with a $101 million salary cap.

If I botched something in the calculations above, let me know.
