Having KCP in the starting unit shores up the defense so much better than having IT. And IT's instant offense makes him a nice spark off the bench ala the clarkson role.

I would start

PG.Thomas
SG.Ball

Ball needs to develop his off-ball offensive skills. He will be okay when we move him to PG next year. But we need to be sure he will be effective when PG13 and LBJ arrive.

I'm confident an athletic 6"5, 7 RPG, 1.5 STL 1BLK player can defend at the 2.
He will get stronger and will be able to bully PGs next season. Try to give us a Ginobili type game. Be more of a scorer than a passer. Next year more a passer than a scorer.

CP3 is not a high volume scorer but players guard him as if he is (This opens up the passing lanes) because they know he's got every move in the book and can score from everywhere.

I'm not sure what my being OK with them as a unit indicates. I'm OK with whatever the coach does, largely because I ain't the coach and I have no vested interest in the team's success.

I think IT is still off his game and I don't have much desire to see him tune up at the Lakers' expense.

I think this club currently has better starting guard options on this roster, emphatically. Lonzo and IT are two players who are not prepared to defend their own positions well, let alone give help. I'd prefer seeing KCP/Ball deployed again when Lonzo returns, and if not KCP, Hart with Lonzo.

Don't compare to CP3, you're talking;

19.3 PPG
25.8 PER
.403 from 3 P land
91% FT's

Lonzo is not in that discussion, at least not yet if ever.

No way to know just yet. In theory, with both of them healthy, Lonzo's Spider-sense of passing lanes, weak-side rotation blocks, and nose-for-the-ball rebounds could compensate for IT's lack of height and defensive wingspan.

A lineup of those two plus Ingram (length), Randle (strength and switches) and Lopez (size, backstop) could be effective against against most teams. But we'd have to avoid putting in KCP or Hart at the 3 when IT is out there, because we simply can't afford 2 height mismatches at once. Randle at C can negate some of that due to brute strength, but Hart and KCP don't have that kind of power at the 3 spot.

To make it work, though, IT would have to pressure the opposing point early in the clock, and fight over the inevitable screens to stick with his man and avoid switches. He'd have to be more of a gnat-like disruptor and try to throw off an opposing team's rhythm, kind of like a DB bumping a WR hard right at the line of scrimmage on timing patterns.

I swear, though, seeing him on the court with Randle is like watching a Kevin hart-Dwayne Johnson buddy movie on a basketball court. Takes some getting used to.

We'll see but if he's healthy I think so.

I rather not
Have our bench defense consist of IT and Kuzma lol.
your bench is not supposed to be full of lock down defense. your bench is supposed to maintain a lead or help cut down a deficit. but that usually occurs vs the other teams bench.

the starters are the ones that need to have the most defense to slow down the better players/scorers.

you want IT off the bench. because he's a sparkplug scorer. he cant guard anyone. and you're not asking him to off the pine if he's dropping 20+ per game at a nice clip.

IT should come off the bench. He should fill Clarkson's role.

This. It shouldn't be guaranteed that he finishes games either.

KC "no D" P sucks at D. Would much rather have Hart start once Zo comes back.

Hart is the better player already. Since IT won't be with us next season, what's the point of taking playing time away from Hart? Luke should give Kuz, Hart, BI, and Lonzo as much playing time together as possible.
