This law would allow you to carry in a state that has strict carry laws. This has NRA written all over it. This will send the country back to the days of the Wild Wild West.

Quote:

The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017 would force states with stricter gun laws, such as New York and California, to honor out-of-state permits from states with less restrictive requirements. Its passage is a victory for gun rights advocates; the National Rifle Association’s executive director, Chris Cox, called it a “watershed moment.”

Quote:
Yet the bill’s critics say it undermines state and local laws, effectively forcing states or municipalities with higher restrictions to hew to the loosest laws, regardless of individual states’ public safety needs. The common analogy, which New York City officials immediately brought up: armed tourists in Times Square. On New Year’s Eve.

This probably belongs in The Political Thread. You continue to operate under the false assumption that concealed carry laws have something to do with the Wild West. They are not a big deal, and in reality this sort of law is just political grandstanding.

I thought about that but didn't know how to make it a poll there.

Yes I do it would give lease to people like George Zimmerman. I don't think that's healthy.

I don't think carrying a concealed weapon is necessary. I'm for owning guns not carrying them. It may be grandstanding but it's also dangerous. What if the bill becomes law?

So people are all about states' rights until they force their own on others who are complying with their own laws.

“Shall carry” states (where concealed carry is a default right) have 10.6% higher handgun homicide rates than “may carry” (where concealed carry is more regulated) states.

If this bill passes I see it as setting a precedence to superseded other state laws. e.g. A state with strict marijuana laws could be pressured to cede to state laws less stringent. If this bill becomes law it will open Pandora's box.

My state decides to not allow abortions. My state's laws supersede yours, therefore you cannot either.

My state allows open carry. My state's laws supersede yours that do not.

My state permits homosexual marriage. Yours does not. My state's laws supersede yours.

This bill isn't about outlawing guns. It's about circumventing state laws.

Only about 35% of America would have to surrender their guns or become outlaws because the majority of Americans don’t own firearms.

It’s just such a trite argument.

What is the point of having state laws at this point then? Either have them or don't.

I think it's a pretty simple concept to follow the laws of where you are, not where you're from.

so are you calling Cops outlaws too? sure some of them are. lol.

But you get my point right? Nice cute statement that has a t-shirt esk ring to it. but the truth is if Guns are outlawed very few outlaws will carry guns and cops will carry guns if need be. just like our friends across the pond.
