Can the draftheads give a top 5 ranking for the Cavs pick, along with archetype/player comps? Much appreciated.

^^^not a draft expert, but in my opinion.....it seems like people are all over the place right now....there are still guys in that range on mocks that I have not seen play. I assume the mocks and rankings will be a little more aligned at some point, but I see guys listed as 1st Round Picks in some mocks....then not even show up in either round in others.

yeah, the mocks won't start coming to a consensus until ~may, then will continue to get tinkered with through june during draft workouts. still way too early to tell right now.

****from what I have seen to date.....very likely to change (except #1)...not strong on player comps

Cleveland Pick (feeling more safe, more risk averse this year)

1. Jevon Carter (WVU) - PG - pure dog defender with excellent hands, solid jumper, high BBIQ, and great team leader. Solid handle, playmaker, finisher, and rebounder. Comp would be Pat Beverly with a higher offensive upside.

2. Khyri Thomas (Creighton) - CG - great on ball defender, quick hands, and excellent length (same measurements as Donovan Mitchell...6'3" with 6'10" wingspan), foot work, and spot up shooter. Has a solid handle, and an average athlete.

3. Zhaire Smith (Texas Tech) - SG - explosive long athletic wing, can play above the rim, high energy, solid build/frame, and can defend multiple positions. He is a 19 year old freshman, but has not shown any decent volume on shooting from distance this year.

4. Jalen Brunson ('Nova) - PG - Why not tap that well again? Many of the same intangible gifts that Josh Hart brings to the court. Great leader, very efficient, solid defender, high BBIQ, clutch DNA, average athlete. Player comparison would be a better shooting Andre Miller.

5. Hamidou Diallo (Kentucky) - Wing - freak athlete that plays above the rim, good length, good finisher at the rim. Needs to become better shooter and improve handle. Player comp....a smaller version of a young Vince Carter?

***I am assuming Mitchell Robinson, Brandon McCoy, Chandler Hutchison are off the board.

Brunson is listed at 6'3? Is he that tall or is he more like 6'0?

in 2014, was measured at 6'1.5 with shoes (6' without shoes) at the 2014 USA U18 tryouts and the 2014 USA Junior National Team Mini Camp...but that was years ago....not sure if or by how much he has grown.

What do you like about him? I watched him some this weekend, didn't really show much.

You know, he didn't take the next step this year and has remained a very effective, efficient role player on one of the best teams in the country. The questions will be how much untapped upside he may have and whether college role players can step up against NBA competition - or is everyone a former star in the pros?

But Evans is a quintessential 3&D guy with a robust shooting profile (volume + FT%) who gets stocks along with showing out as a man defender in the games I watched. He's also a well-built, physical dude who demonstrates switchability onto bigs similar to Hart, and I think he could give you small ball PF minutes in a pinch. I also like him filling the wing in transition and he flashes as a guy who can board and go while being a good decisionmaker overall (his TOs are up this year, but his ATR has improved).

Obviously his handle is simple (outside of a nice hang-dribble crossover), he's mostly a straight line driver, and he'll fall in love with long pullup jumpers at times when he gets cut off, but he generally knows who he is and avoids trying to be the man on a well-balanced Cincy team. Which leads back to my initial question.

Looks small, probably not favorable measurements either.

Smaller than Brunson.
6'0 in shoes. 160 lbs. 6'2 wingspan in 2016.
I'll give him this, he still shoots the 3 ball (6.2 attempts) even though he's only shooting 25%. He's not afraid.

Is he athletic?

over last 4 games he is 14/27 from 3. shot 37.5% from 3 as a freshman. handles, vision, quickness, good shooting form (83% ft). advanced stats as a sophomore are almost identical to kemba walker's.

gets to the rim...per synergy:

44.4% of Shot Attempts at rim
Total Attempts at the Rim: 77-155 (49.7%)
Layups: 63-115 (54.8%)
Runners/Floaters: 14-39 (35.9%)
Dunks: 0-1
FTr: 0.320

just watch his games. his skillset and decision making translates to the pros.

he is the spitting image of kemba walker imo

Current DX mock draft #20-25:

20. Bruce Brown
21. Khyri Thomas
22. Trevon Duval
23. Anfernee Simons
24. Shake Milton
25. Mitchell Robinson
26. De'Anthony Melton
27. Keita Bates-Diop
28. Hamidou Diallo
29. Melvin Frazier
30. Landry Shamet
31. Brandon McCoy
32. Rodions Kurucs
33. Jalen Hudson
34. Jevon Carter
35. Grayson Allen
36. Chimezie Metu
37. Devonte' Graham
38. Jacob Evans
39. Aaron Holiday
40. Kevin Hervey
41. Rawle Alkins
42. Jalen Brunson
43. Arnoldas Kulboka
44. Bonzie Colson
45. Allonzo Trier
46. Amine Noua
47. Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk
48. Vincent Edwards
49. Ethan Happ
50. Alize Johnson

Of the players available at pick #25, my rough top five:

1. Mitchell Robinson - great man of mystery, but he has lottery pick upside based on measurables and shotblocking production at shoe camps. He's going to have to show a lot at the draft combine, team workouts, and in interviews to allay concerns about his odd recruitment and lack of tape. But he's at the intersection of need and BPA at #25, imo.

2. De'Anthony Melton - it would've been nice to see him with a larger body of work, but I liked him as a 1st round pick last year. It's rare to see guards who rebound, get stocks, and playmake like Melton did as a freshman, but can he become a reliable shooter?

3. Rawle Alkins - 6'4 220 power guard with a solid wingspan and underrated athleticism. Despite non-star counting stats, I think he has the potential to score at all three levels and be a tertiary initiator. Combine that with solid defense (2.6 stocks per40) and I think he has a higher likelihood of becoming an NBA starter than most of the guards on this list. I'm surprised DX continues to underrate him so much.

4. Jacob Evans - see above.

5. Landry Shamet/Jevon Carter/Grayson Allen/Allonzo Trier - I'm cheating, but I like all four guys and don't feel like parsing them out just yet. But all four can shoot off the catch and bounce, and the Lakers definitely need shooting.

International guys who intrigue me who I need to see more of: Rodions Kurucs, Isaac Bonga, Goga Bitadze.

Wild cards: Killian Tillie and Billy Preston.

Guys I'd like to see the Lakers pass on in the 1st: Brandon McCoy, Hamidou Diallo, Keita Bates-Diop, Chimieze Metu.

he competes hard, jumps passing lanes and picks pockets on the regular. 3.8% steal %.

Crazy how much difference a year makes. Was totally plugged into NCAA basketball the past 3-4 years. Never heard of 90% of these guys. I have a lot of catching up to do.

This kid looks nice nice, but I think Kemba is way more explosive with his first step and has better handles.
