shamorie ponds = kemba walker
This kid looks nice nice, but I think Kemba is way more explosive with his first step and has better handles.
ya kemba the more explosive athlete for sure but i think ponds has equal handle and better IQ/craftiness as a soph. ponds has nice first step off a live dribble too. _________________ substance over style

okay he can be our second round pick
Smaller than Brunson.
6'0 in shoes. 160 lbs. 6'2 wingspan in 2016.
I'll give him this, he still shoots the 3 ball (6.2 attempts) even though he's only shooting 25%. He's not afraid.
Is he athletic?
over last 4 games he is 14/27 from 3. shot 37.5% from 3 as a freshman. handles, vision, quickness, good shooting form (83% ft). advanced stats as a sophomore are almost identical to kemba walker's.
gets to the rim...per synergy:
44.4% of Shot Attempts at rim
Total Attempts at the Rim: 77-155 (49.7%)
Layups: 63-115 (54.8%)
Runners/Floaters: 14-39 (35.9%)
Dunks: 0-1
FTr: 0.320
just watch his games. his skillset and decision making translates to the pros.
he is the spitting image of kemba walker imo

Jevon Carter sounds good to me. If he can defend the smaller, quicker guards and shoot the three a bit, anything else beyond that is gravy, though he should be a solid playmaker in addition to that. Perfect Zo backup that could even play alongside him a bit, and most importantly eliminates Ennis from our lives...

Also like both Jevon Carter and Ponds from the clips viewed. With IT likely gone next year and JC traded, we probably go small with the 1st if we keep it.

Can the draftheads give a top 5 ranking for the Cavs pick, along with archetype/player comps? Much appreciated.
Dudes are all over the place right now. When the players declare, this will be easier to decipher.
Chandler Hutchison - 6'7" wing, local kid. Aggressive to the hoop. Straight line driver. Has an idea of passing, 20%-30% ast rate. Streaky 3pt shooter, but much improved. Strong. Dan Majerle.
De'Anthony Melton - Tony Allen level type defense. Think he's a switchable SG/SF high level defender. Rudimentary ball handling, average 3pt shot in development. Suspended by USC because of his relatives accepted money?
Keita Bates Diop - 6'7", 7'2"+ PF/SF. Tweener forward but has range. Hits my general markers when I'm looking at baseline #s; 58% 2, 37% 3, 82% FT, 9rpg, 1.6bpg (6%), 1:1 A/TO ratio. Otto Porter archetype.
Shake Milton - 6'7" Bomb shooter with 7' WS length. Kyle Anderson level athlete. Has a clue on PnR/tertiary playmaking. 43% arc shooter for 3 years at SMU. Am concerned about Tony Snell archetype. Prefer Sterling Brown.
Bruce Brown - 6'4" + with length. Football background (ranks highly for me, says a lot about motor). Tough combo guard with sharp decline in shooting. Terry Rozier archetype.
Landry Shamet - 6'4"+ with length. More 2/3 with killer 3pt shot. Hits baseline stuff (56% 2, 44% 3, 81%FT, 2:1+ A/TO ratio). Lightweight, may be problematic defensively. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

Billy Preston was as big time as Lonzo 4 years ago in SoCal high school hoops before his mother started transferring him every year. The kid has serious raw talent and size. Might be worth some kind of flier in the 2nd round or summer league invite.
I really can't comment much on Khyri Thomas since he's at Creighton but he fits the profile of a kid the Lakers could draft with the Cavs pick. On that Kuzma type path as a jr improving every year at a mid major type school, can shoot 3's, good size for a combo guard.
trying to hunt down the full game footage for creighton vs st. johns
would be good to see shamorie ponds struggling and scout khyri thomas more. if anyone can find it love you forever
here's a short highlight vid
initial takeaways:
thomas is probably maxed out as a 3+D role player. no handle, no shake, straight line driver. i'm not taking him with a 1st round pick, his type can be found in the 2nd round or undrafted. _________________ substance over style

Curious is all...
His entire game is based on the jumpshot which is fine. He shoots a high volume out there. Do I trust that he can be effective attacking closeouts and finishing at the rim?
No.
Great height/wingspan. He's 48% FG at the rim. Only 22% of his total shots are at the rim.
Like yeah, dude can shoot. Does he have the requisite athleticism to match up defensively? I trust his height/length/IQ. But I also have the same question about Landry Shamet.
I'm trying hard not to fall into the trap of "player by fit" because it looks like a lot of BPAs for the Lakers just so happen to be good to great shooters. Well, yeah they need that. They also need more than that if possible. That's why I like Hutch. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

Having seen a little bit of the bolded, I have to agree there. I'm not familiar with the others yet.
Trae Young had a terrible night....4 of 16 from the field (0 of 9 from 3) and 6 Turnovers.
Quote:

Trae Young is now 7-for-41 from 3-point range in his last four games. 0-for-9 tonight, his first game all season without a made 3-pointer.
Like I said about Trae Young and all the other "next Steph Curry's"
Change of Direction is what separates Steph from the pack. It's not just his ability to shoot from anywhere it's his ability to handle and change directions.
These college kids like Trae Young whom are straight line drivers with an over-reliance on step backs because they don't have the kind of Change of Direction and handle Curry does are why they fall short of those expectations.
Trae Young has his height and his lack of change of direction working against him, and it would be a bigger problem at the next level if he doesn't work on his handle more and have more go to moves than his step back and the ability to shoot from way out.
I think his percentages are extremely low against ranked teams as well but I don't know the stats specifically.
But what I'm seeing from Trae are the things that stand out as problems with the other "next Steph's" that have come down the pike. Maybe that slows the hype down a little and some of his flaws will get analyzed more.
But all these basketball analysis on the mainstream news rarely if ever talk about change of direction as a weakness. So I doubt it. _________________ How NBA 2K18 failed the All-Time Lakers:

trae young's change of direction is comparable to curry's as a freshman in college. his crossover is sufficient and he has good enough handle. i will give u that curry's handle > trae's handle. but athleticism and shooting are comparable.
here's curry from when he was half a year older than trae is now: _________________ substance over style

Where would you (and Mike/adkindo/other college b-ball followers) rank him in the previous draft class? Do you think the hype has substance, or he has a lot more to prove at the NBA level before deserving the Steph comparisons?
